Forest v Man U - Match Thread

A chance to reach a cup final...for the first time in over 25 years. With one of Newcastle and Southampton awaiting.

Last Game Overview: (C Cup QF)

Another amazing penalty shootout!

The Good: Henderson.

The Bad: Wolves penalties! 🤣

The Ugly: Wolves players preaching injustice.

Special Mention: MGW…we can’t hear you!!

Overall Record:

Currently we stand at W33 D24 L49

A big crash back to earth the last time we played. We weren’t that bad, they weren’t that good, but ultimately their class played out in an easy 3-0 win.

Injuries / Signings:

Danilo and Scarpa could both start. Wood is cup-tied (Henderson not allowed to figure). Unlikely that anyone else will sign in time.

Awoniyi, Kouyate, Niakhate and Richards remain injured. Yates struggling with illness .

Your Opposition Story:

Waaay too hungover to bother.

Form: (taken our EPL form)

Forest Home Form - W3 D3 L0 GF8 GA4

Man U Away Form - W2 D2 L2 GF8 GA9

Team:

Hennessey

Aurier Worrall Boly Lodi

Freuler Scarpa Danilo

Johnson Surridge MGW

Prediction:

1-1 Rashford / Surridge

COYRs!!!!!

I don’t rate Lingard either, too many games just pass him by, you’d think he might have a point to prove, but again he’s offered nothing.

Now it’s game over. Oh well, let’s hope the injuries aren’t too bad

Forest yet again fail to clear their area and are punished, game over, tie over. McKenna doesn’t commit to the challenge and effectively pulls out, Fernandez does the only thing he’s done all game. Unfortunately its gone as i feared it might.

Very poor at the back. Again not the best but of keeping either.

Wonder if we’ll sign a CB in Jan. Or maybe we’ll see Niakhate back soon. Either way we need some pace at the back

I don’t think either Worrall or McKenna are upto the task of the premiership, i love Worrall for all of what he brings, enthusiasm, direction, etc, but he is getting caught out too many times. He reads the game ok, but his lack of pace has really cost us, can’t see why Boly didn’t play tonight instead of McKenna, another player who has been absolutely brilliant over the last seasons but is struggling to make the step up. We can’t really afford to wait for Niakhate to get himself fit, assuming that even happens. Tonight was a reality check, yes as Cooper said we’ve done really well to get to where we are, but we still have a very long way to go. Do what Utd do next week and play a second string eleven, and focus on Leeds that Sunday.

I feel that tonight Cooper was seeing how far we have improved and if we ready to play the style of football he actually wants. The answer is no

With the full backs pushing on and the front 4 creating but not scoring our CB were exposed. I don’t agree that they are not good enough, but they are not good enough in a system that leaves them in a sprint with Rashford or Anthony.

If we playing Worrall/McKenna/Cook combinations then we need a solid 3 in front and sitting in the deep block.

The GK is also a concern and can see cover for Hendo being a priority now for the rest of Jan.

It’s not all doom and gloom, we have shown some Real quality tonight with the new lads looking decent. We also know we have a method to fall back on that has proven to getting points for us.

I agree with your comments about Worrall and McKenna but they are our second choice pairing. But Niakahte and Boly would also have a tough time against Manchester united.
That said we can’t really expect to compete against any of the top four teams. Not for a few years anyway.
Our aim is to stay up, and we have enough to do that and I’m confident we will.

I think that 20 minute spell showed we have enough to stay up.
We need to beat Leeds and a point at West Ham and victory over Everton on the 5th March.
Given our last match is against Crystal Palace , according to my last match NFFC intuition we should be ok for mid-table.

Not without Henderson or a better replacement for Hennersey, he was poor for all three goals.
