Taking it serious. Why Antony though?

The squad we have is what it is, until Ten Hag has more time and windows. I wouldn’t want us to not go for the cups, we have been majorly short on trophies for a long time now. Top 4 will be a real slog, but we can do it in the end imo, as well as fighting hard for the other 2 cups. I’m confident that all the other sides around us will also continue to drop points here and there, none look any more capable than us of putting 3 or 4 consecutive wins together.

Tottenham and Liverpool will each be only playing once a week from now on. Newcastle have been all season. It's all well and good saying we should be going for all competitions but when the squad isn't good enough to do so, it smacks of foolhardiness.

We'll see come the end of the season but things certainly don't look far from unraveling

A mention for Martinez today, amongst all the mayhem he was a cool head, so comfortable on the ball

He was the one I was most worried about when he got booked.
He is very composed on the ball with brilliant distribution, one of the few players that rarely gives it away.

Yeah I know but it wouldn’t sit right with me just turning our nose up at one of the cups now. The sides you mention also went for the cups too, just didn’t get as far as we have. I don’t support the team because I’m desperate for us to finish in the top 4.

Understand both views, and know achieving top 4 will make next year and the summer window much better, but still think we can rotate bit by bit, better than ETH has been doing probably and try to manage each game as it comes. Casemiro being out doesn’t help but Sabitzer won’t be missing long, and Fred and McT will have to come in.

We can alternate Sancho and Antony, Martial is back almost (for a few weeks probably), he’s giving minutes to Pellistri too now, so imo we can rotate a little and still navigate the next round or so of the cups at least. We’re basically through in the EL now.

The ref is the main issue. We are miles better than Newcastle United and Spurs this season hence why we battered them at OT. Its the refs that decided to keep Newcastle United in top 4 race. I don’t think Newcastle United have been that good. One of the reasons there defensive record is so good other than Pope is some reason refs don’t give penalties against them for fouls like the one Pope did today.

I think we need to have the team focussed on winning, though. We’ve actually tended to ‘unravel’ when we’ve not really had anything to play for.

It may lead to a slog for the top four, it may not. But I think we’ve got enough wins in us to do it even with the cups. But winning cups take on a more significant role in our season not just for the fans, but for the players and manager than need to get into a habit of winning trophies, and having to play to win every week.

I just don't see the prestige of the Europa, personally. You aren't up against all of the best teams in Europe or even domestically.

The reward for it is the same as finishing 4th in the league, though staying in it actually hurts your chances of finishing 4th. And whilst a few weeks ago, it could have been argued that winning in it was important to keep momentum going, the truth is now we have no momentum. We're not on any kind of a run. And again, I put that predominantly down to playing twice a week

Well today we would have won probably 5 or 6-0 if the ref knew how to ref the game and we had a bit of luck in front of goal.

It’s the biggest trophy on offer for us. And the difference between that and fourth is also top seeding, which will make our life easier next season in the CL.

I think our issues have something to do with the schedule, but a lot of it is down to poor squad planning, injuries that can’t be legislated for and Casemiro getting sent off twice.

We’ve been on winning runs all throughout our cup commitments since the world cup as well. Winning games is good for confidence, especially when the group has the flaker mentality we do.

Fortunately the manager and the players want to win the cups so we’ll see the right focus in those games.

And we beat Barca, who are top of La Liga. Arsenal are in it, who are top of the prem. Juve would be second in Serie A if they get their points reinstated. So it’s not like the Europa is Micky Mouse. And a club like United, that don’t win many European competitions, shouldn’t treat as such either - especially when we end up facking playing in it as much as we do the CL.
