Maybe if players stopped abusing and confronting officials every time they feel hard done by, we wouldn’t see such actions.

If Robertson had done that to anyone in a bar or in the street he’d have had his jaw properly swiped.

And, as you well know, the best officials are the ones that engage and explain with players and don’t just act the superior cvnt and fck off cos I’ve got the flag / whistle. I realise there are lines and that approach not always working with some players or situations but the limited look I got of it the official seemed in the latter camp?

Robertson had been having a go throughout the game as I saw it, so there has to come a point where any official just thinks it’s not worth trying to explain to someone who a) doesn’t care what he says, b) thinks he has the right to harangue an official and c) abuse him at will.

I’m kind of surprised that an official hasn’t reacted before now and whilst the game has improved from the Ferguson approach to officials, this kind of behaviour seems to be creeping back in.

Something has to give.

They should be allowed to iron things out themselves.

Let Robertson spew his bile and grab the official, let the official lift his elbow to him.

Let them continue to do that until Robertson gets ironed out.
