Mason's faced Ten Haag, Klopp and Hodgson and done very well with more progressive fluid tactical formations. And he's dropped Dier. And he knows the club inside out. What's not to like?

If it's gonna be a punt on Kompany, Slot, Carrick, Alonso etc I'd rather take a punt on Mason.

But it’s not just a punt on them. Nagelsmaan is available and absolutely perfect for us. We don’t appoint him and take Mason on will absolutely fuming

On the one hand it’s a valid point, on the other, he’s learnt from Pep. At a very stable club. Appointing him was a risk but nothing compared to appointing Mason. It would be like appointing the sole survivor of a train crash to be the next train driver.
