to Australia for retaining the Ashes. Everything was against against them, they lost every toss, hostile crowd unfairly booing them, had the worse of the weather when they batted, one of their best bowlers missing for a fair bit if the serious. Did they ever have a day when the sun shone when they batted. But the knuckled down, and deserved to win.
World Champions and Ashes winners away from home.
Going to be hard going forward for England ageing bowlers. This was their best chance. So expect Australia to retain the Ashes on their own patch next time they are contested.
England need to get back to basics. Leave the one day stuff alone, and concentrate on learning how to play hardball Test cricket.
A big congratulations are in order

Everything was against them
Losing 4 tosses. Stokes still chose to bowl 3 times and batting first is generally the way to go regardless of conditions.
Hostile crowd booing them. This is standard stuff in an Ashes battle.
Missing Lyon for a lot of the series. England had Leach missing for all of it and then lost their vice captain and have had far more problems with injury.
not sure even even the Australians will say they've deserved to retain the Ashes yet. They were more ruthless with taking their chances in the first 2 tests and the old catches win matches was very prevalent. Chances that Australia did put down were far less costly too.
All in all, it's been a very good series sadly ruined by rain. The series deserved a decider which England would have been favourites for but here we are. The reality is, Australia will be under pressure to play more like England. Glenn McGrath has already come out and said it in his BBC article.

Regarding the catches, it's important to make the other team pay for drops, so not really something going aussies way. More like playing better.

Well hello there my snooker buddy 👋, England could be 3 - 0 up, but Australia won the key moments in the first 2 tests, Bairstow was stupid... Simple as that, but if that horrific weather hasn't been around over the weekend, England would have won that test, setting up a fantastic finale at the Oval.. Oh, & Australia haven't won anything, the've retained the Ashes, as it stands they haven't won in England since 2001...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you know England would have won the 4th Test? Australia may have gone on to get another 150-200 runs. Remember 1981 when England were still 150 plus behind, with only three wickets left, 500/1 with the bookies. And they still won. What's to say Australia would not have done the same?
And nonsense to say England could have been 3-0 up. The equally could have been 3-0 down.

Oh and Australia have won something, it's called the ASHES. However you care to dress it up.

Excuses from the England supporters are hilarious. You lost the Ashes to a better side. Just accept defeat a bit more graciously.

Lots of nonsense bring said about how England are going to just walk all over Australia in the final test, get a 2-2 draw out of the series and get a moral victory. What a load of bollox.
I expect this to be another draw or an Aussie win, depends on weather. Aussies been nowhere near their best, but still comfortably better than Engjand at their best. Better bowlers, batters, wicketkeeper.

Because you're stating an example from 42 years ago. If the roles were reversed, you'd probably be claiming that Australia won the test based on the position of dominance.
It's not nonsense to say that England could have been 3-0 up. Just like it could have been 3-0 Australia or 2-1 either way. That's how close contests work and I've not seen any England fans say anything on the contrary. Australians seem to be the same from what I've seen.
