Some thoughts on Gnonto

When we signed him, we'd missed out on a couple of players and it felt like a bit of appeasement for the fans, an Italian international striker, whom none of us had really heard of.

They weren't going to sign him for a couple of years but movement from others had prompted them to move early and he would go into our reserves,

Indeed Marsch knew so little about him that he didn't even know that he spoke English and the line was that he wasn't ready for the first team yet,

It all seemed rather odd, Italian striker, championship winner who'd played nearly 2 full seasons in Swiss top league, not good enough for first team?

One wonders what he was promised to come to England and join us?

He surely had ambitions to play in top league, further his Italian career and win things/european competition.

I imagine he was sold a bit of a lemon, believed the hype and got relegated.

I have no problem if he wants to leave.

He's not spoken publicly saying he wants to go, he gave best efforts v Cardiff.

With so much speculation about him in recent weeks, club could have made this statement earlier, but it feels like they're not getting the money they hoped for and so are putting this statement out.

I don't know the full picture, it's just some thoughts on what might be a bigger picture as the whole initial transfer seemed odd.

If Gnonto is refusing to play, then he's being badly advised and his agent apparently tried this before with a Roma player, trying to push a move through to Leeds ironically.

But why did club allow him to play already? Farke clearly has him in his plans.

If teh club are genuinely saying not for sale because they and Farke want him and feel he's acting incorrectly then I really applaud them.

He wont be on big wages, teh club can afford to teach him a lesson and also show teh football world that maybe contracts need to be a bit more respected.

But at some point something will have to give and I imagine he leaves cut price somewhere along the line.

But maybe after all of this people might think less harshly of Bielsa.

Bielsa receives criticism for not bringing in players offered, but if he was being offered some of these who jumped ship at earliest opportunity, then one can see exactly why he didn't want them, they completely disrupt a team, it must have been awful last season with players already eying exits instead of focussing on their duties with us.

Farke for me has done everything right so far and hope that this 49ers statement is one that shows he's getting supported now in what he wants.

On one hadn't I want all players who dont want to be here to leave, Adams included, but feel there is more than meets the eye with Gnonto and it's an early test case of our owners way of managing us.

Agree with most apart from Gnonto v Cardiff. He moaned and groaned his way through that game and looked pretty uninterested at times.

He had one good attempt first half but apart from that I don’t remember him doing that much.

He’s definitely being badly advised and I hope the owners hold out for what they think he’s worth. If we get offered anything like £25m I think he will be sold.

Let’s play a Brighton here and see what comes of it. We can afford to hold our nerve I think.

Brighton are showing how to handle players and transfers, I hope we follow there example.

He's a petulant liability at times. I hope the club hold firm and only sell him on their terms, not his. If he continues his current crusade against the club he should be shoved in with the U21s and become a talisman for them!

Some strange things about willy, and we’ve never got the reasons for

1 why leave Inter ?

2 Why go to Swizerland ?

3 why did he get capped for Italy ?

4 why did a full Italian international go for just £4.5m ?

It just doesnt add up.

He did nothing to warrant a cap, miles from it.

Was it to stop him being able to play for Ivory coast 🤷🏻‍♂️

Or because he was Black

I've not seen a lot of good things from Gnonto since he got injured playing for Italy last season.
For whatever reason he's just not been the player he was before that.
I'd be comfortable with him being sold, but we need to hold out for a good price for once.

Problem is, he's probably the best CF option we have in a position that we're desperately short in, and now he refuses to play. Club need a decent CF signed to negate the void left by Willy. We have enough attackers to get by without him, but the gap he leaves up top is concerning.

Wanting to leave is understandable. Refusing to play is unacceptable and I hope the club fight back hard on this. Suspend his wages for a start.

Putting to one side Gnonto's poor attitude and agents advice, I rhink this is indicative of the affect of the Loan clauses.

A lot of the bad performing 20/23 incoming players are now playing in top European leagues and are lower league free (for now anyway).

You get the likes of those still here getting bitter about that - Gnonto case in point , maybe Sini?

Yes the implications of these contracts just keep on comiing - dreadful.

....and maybe Cry?

Unless Gnonto publically apologises for refusing to play for Leeds and trying to orchestrate a move away to Everton via his agent then there's no way back for him... he's burnt his bridges.
