If David Gill had gone five years earlier would things have been just as smooth?

It's difficult to compare SAF's era with Eth's unless we simulate the same internal and external forces both managers were/are under. What Eth is experiencing is unique, in fact no team in the leading world leagues has such incompetence running the football operation. You can't therefore expect a football manager to deliver results consistently. A win away from having the best overall win ratio during his tenure! Fine margins.
A swallow does not make a summer. We are going through a bad run of results, the team is missing Martinez and Shaw pretty badly and having to contend with the loss of Casemiro's form and disappearance of Sancho's services. We have so many others who are failing the team that you can't but feel sorry for Eth. This is nothing new, this group is very good at letting the club down.
