Two great characters and proven winners.
Still.. I feel like Varane is very much injury prone and on a decline (decline started before he left R.Madrid).
Casemiro is also aging.
Two quality players in form. But have they played their parts?
Two huge names for Saudi - and the price tag could therefore be very lucrative for us.
Rumours starting to spread that United are listening to offers on both players.
Let's say
£40 m Varane
£60 m Casemiro
Would you take it?
Would you cash in on Casemiro and Varane?

We keep signing high wage aging star names that give us one good season and then decline quite rapidly the next, or become a crock...or just remain plain awful. Started with, Falcao, Schweinsteiger, Ibra, Cavani, Ronaldo and now Casemiro and maybe you can add Varane to that list too. Terrible recruitment strategy with no future planning, so we keep having to replace their positions every other year with...yep you guessed another aging start name mercenary on high wages. Never ending cycle.
Clearly for marketing purposes. That's when you know club doesn't have footballing people in charge and why we been $hit for over 10 years.

SAF did it with Blanc and Larsson.
We have also signed Amad, Pellistri, and brought through Greenwood, Garnacho and Mainoo.

Umm yes he did but they weren't first teamers were they, just added depth to the squad to help out when required. And I doubt they were on high wage too, or on long contracts. So not sure what your point is.

That it didn't start with Falcao, or that it is a terrible recruitment strategy.
SAF spoke many times about having the different age groups within the squad in order to maintain a level of consistency as players aged

If we end up selling all the players ETH brought in, there would be little or no impact to the team, and that tells us how useless ETH is in identifying talent. Trusting him with more money is just irresponsible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
His signings have been hit and miss:
Hits
- Martinez
- Eriksen (for free)
- Casemiro (at least last season)
- Hoijlund
- Reguilon (a loan)
Miss
- Antony
- Weggy (not like he had many options)
Just still out
- Mount
- Amrabat
- Onana
He's also brought Garnacho into the fold at only 17 years old and it's fair to say he's had a good impact.
I think we have to bear in mind, ETH has had to resort to loan deals to try patch up the squad in areas we should be spending decent money, like CM, CB, CF. His biggest signings haven't worked out thus far though.

I think you're stretching including hojlund and reguilon in the hits list.

Nonsense
Onana, Amrabat / Casemiro, Hjojlund are (rightly or wrongly) the spine of the team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Take a moment to let that sink in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Less dramatics. Just make your point

I just did.

I’d sell Casemiro for whatever we can get. He’s in steep decline and anyone saying otherwise is clutching.
Get him off the wage bill and accept another expensive mistake.
Id also sell Varane if we can get a good replacement. He’d too injury prone.
You’re on cloud cuckoo land if you think we’re getting 50 mill for those 2 let alone 100.
