If you could choose one of them in their prime right now who would you choose. Just having a work debate want to see what others think.
P.s we are diabolical at the moment and that Aussie Robb guy is a complete weirdo.
RVN or Rooney

RVN is just the killer you need

For all those gilt-edged chances we create?
Shut up you plonker.

In this United team, probably Rooney for his work rate, aggression and ability to create or switch the play and make things happen as well as get goals. He'd probably form a really good partnership with Hojlund pinning CB's and looking to stretch the opposition defence, similar to what we saw with Rooney playing off of Saha.
But in an otherwise functioning team that make chances, you could flip a coin on it. In fact, I'd go as far to say that in today's football market place, bona fide world class #9's seem few and far between and prime Ruud today would arguably be the best striker on the planet along with Kane & Haaland.
I'm surprised at the comments saying it's no contest. RvN was a world class CF in an era with some of the best CF's around and his goal scoring record for us was incredible.
In fact I'm questioning my own pick. In our current team, Rooney would be dislodging Bruno, and RvN dislodging Hojlund. I think Hojlund looks a superb prospect but you'd be hard pressed to argue that a world class striker in his prime like Ruud coming in over Hojlund wouldn't be the bigger improvement compared with Rooney over Bruno.
Can we have both?

Why you saying Robb is a weirdo?
Right now Rooney. No one would provide for RVN but Rooney had that anger when things weren't going right that we need in some of our players right now

Not a directly comparative choice.
A RvN is what United definitely need in the centre forward position.
A Rooney is what United definitely need in the central midfield position

Easy choice. Rooney.

It would be Rooney and by some way. He was the heartbeat of our attacking play for many years. He would put some passion back into the team and would be the obvious choice for captain.
As good as RVN was, I am happy that Hojlund will score goals if we create the chances. And Rooney would certainly help improve in that area, whilst demanding more from the other players in the team.

For me, it's a no contest because Rooney can offer a team a lot more than what RVN can. It doesn't stop RVN being an amazing striker and one of the best poachers we have had at OT, but it's easy to forget what a truly great player Rooney was, especially in his earlier younger days with the likes of Ronaldo and Tevez.
Even if we had RVN, with his proven record, we would struggle to create him real clear-cut chances. We seem to really do that consistently these days
