5k times

It took me more than 2 years to get up to 5k from when I started jogging again.

My first 5k time was last year and approx 25.00.
I got that down to consistent runs of around 23.00 and my best time was around 22.30.

Wow, this year, I've not gone under 26 minutes. I've a couple of 26.10s.
Mostly around 26.30 although have been as high as 28.00.

Am running most days, although can't afford a gym so have to run outside, and it was blinkin' cold today in shorts and 2 tshirts (can't afford a jogging top lol). Just done a 26.28, and actually didn't double up with my hands on my knees gasping for air at the finish for maybe the first time ever.

I'm nearly 50. I think the slower times are a combination of being a year older and weaker, and that I pushed myself crazy crazy hard last year.

What's your times?

that's a long one for a young man like you.
what did you injure?

Very slight calf strain.
Felt it with about 300m to go yesterday, after coming off a little downhill bit. Stopped very quickly to stretch it (probably cost me sub 30) but still felt the same.

Going to give it 3 days. Hope that'll do it. After that I'll start losing fitness already.

you reminded me of the phrase 'as happy as a puppy with two peepers', as used in the film City Slickers.

I reckon because I stretched my calves off so deep, it fked up the muscles at the bridge of my foot and leg.

also have got a muscle strain in my stomach.
last time i did that was out for about 6 months.
was from sprinting previously so i've avoided sprinting ever since, but has still happened.
bad news for my running prospects. run while you're young people.

2 brisk c20 minute walks a day for me now.
giving up on the jogging.
just had a cracking walk in beautiful early evening sunshine.

Knocked 2 and a half minutes of my walking time.
26 minutes down to 23.30.
It's a bit hard to measure but seems to be almost exactly 2.5k.
I was blowing after 15 minutes.
Still good fitness, and hopefully won't cause any injuries. Stretch the legs off first.
