My post today is about the knowledge or lack of it from some match commentators regarding the Law covering back passes.
When Udogie under hit his back pass it meant Vicarion had to scramble and dive to push the ball away, after WHU scored the first thing the commentator said was why did Vicario not grab the ball?
Quite simply it was a back pass and he would have had a free kick given against him if had had got his hands on the ball. I am not sure whether the referee might have given a free kick anyway if West Ham had not scored, because using his fists is still handling the ball.
Might sound a bite trite, but I do just wish these so called experts would actually understand the game they are getting paid a lot to comment on🤔
As for the result, it proves certain things, firstly possession is irrelevant if your opponents score more goals that you.
Playing the way we do is brilliant, however we have to accept that on occasions it will cost us at the back.
It also shows that we are very much a work in progress, that we need to have faith in what Ange is trying to achieve at the club. I have previously said that he needs at least two seasons before we can really judge his tenure. Also in the next two transfer windows he needs the opportunity to bring in more players to strengthen the team and squad.
I notice that one or two on here are casting doubts on things, but Ange did did it would not be a smooth ride and we should expect some rough times.
We also did not foresee or expect the number of injuries or suspensions to key players, which has decimated the squad beyond belief.
Yes I know other teams have injuries, but my concern is with THFC🤔
As I mentioned in an earlier reply on another post, I am still confident we will finish in the Top 5, which will qualify for CL this season. However if we don’t then I expect us to be in the Europa League comfortably and even that would be good for Ange’s first season.
Just a final note, anyone is welcome to comment on my posts, but if you become abusive in anyway then I will delete you. Please let’s make it polite and everyone should be happy.
Thanks
COYS
Last night!

Said it agreed ago, Ange needs a Plan B.
Poch was the first to suss Ange Ball out, and everyone we’ve played since has followed suit.
See where we are at the end of the season I guess, but it we haven’t qualified for Europe the season should rightly be considered a failure.

8th and an FA Cup? (I know, don’t laugh 😆 )
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Although I think that still gets us in Europe……

In order to have effective plan B you need better players than Richy, Skipp and Gil.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well you could argue that he needs that to execute Plan A.

How do you think that Poch sussed Ange ball out?
We were down to 10 men after 33 minutes and down to 9 after 55 minutes, yet it took Chelsea right to the wire before they pulled clear and even then we could have scored twice more.

I thought it was actually a very good save from the keeper who was left in an awful position by Udogie. Just unluckly it feel to a WHU player, and then unluckly that the rebound fell to a WHU player.
We played well first half without being clinical enough either with shots or final passes.
2nd half we were out fought, which was really disappointing. If we had got the 2nd goal then i think we would have coasted but they had hope and clearly got fired up at half time.

It was such a nonsense "pass" that it is debatable if it was indeed a "back pass".
You may well think that, but UDogie made such a mess of it that he could argue that it was a miss kick and that he was kicking it into touch. And Vicario would have been more than able to kick it into touch for him!
I think the commentators were confused about UDogie's intentions, but clearly did not have the same reading as you do.
Had Vicario picked it up, VAR would have to decide on UDogie's intentions!! As would the Ref.
UDogie, if he had his whits about him, would have argued that it was a miss kick and not a back pass.
As would the commentators.
