Seen articles and comments on why Chelsea are struggling despite the large spend. Only one man to blame and that is Boehly/Clearlake. Absolute arrogance strolling up thinking they can play buy CFC and play fantasy football manager. The warning was there early when Tuchel didn't agree with the recruitment policy and rather than take the advice of a Champions League winning manager he decided to sack him for not agreeing with his vision. Fast forward 15 months and it's fair to say that Tuchel was right. Oh well TT tossed to one side and now managing one of the best teams in Europe to be replaced by Potter who had to contend with Boehly madness but without TT's knowledge, ability and authority.

To suggest Liverpool didn’t drive the price up is a bit silly, of course they did.
They didn’t do it simply to spite Chelsea though, we wanted him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chelsea upped the bid for Lavia cos he was no where near excess of the £40m max we wanted to pay so we took revenge and went straight to Brighton and made them an offer they could not refuse without agreeing anything with the player.
Chelsea were hoping to get Caicedo sub 100m but had to smash the British record for a limited one season DM because we made a bid the club accepted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just my opinion but I don’t think businesses make nine figure contractual bids for revenge. I think we simply tried to gazump Chelsea but they came back with even more as a result.

The truth is Cfc wanted him and the owner was prepared to pay the market value.
The market value is imo the best offer on the table.
The person responsible for the price hike was in fact his agent.
He persuaded Liverpool to make their offer.
Imo i dont think Liverpool would have shown their hand and offered that type of money for a player who they were not going to get, as lets face it is a bit muggy!
For those with short memories the shock and sense of unfathomable disbelief expressed by Liverpool supports when he chose Cfc over Liverpool was cringe worthy.

Exactly, It was just a bidding war, you both wanted the player and were prepared to pay big for him. CFC were always going to win because they lack any savvy in the market with their current owners.

Robbing, i would suggest the market value is highest offer paid, in this instance.

Had to laugh at such a rational reply to that delusional nonsense
If I was a Liverpool fan I'd be more concerned with the desperation of bidding for a player there was very little chance of getting at the eleventh hour, also exposing the fact money was there with willingness to spend it. Least most Chelsea fans own our club being a basket case with transfers.

Of course we did. Chelsea had bid 95m and we made them pay another 20 or so million.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
and they got the player....but somehow that's a win for LFC
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The way the player has performed, it definitely feels like it.

We got the guy who made him look good
