Different Narrative

Last night Newcastle dropped out of Europe finishing bottom of their group after losing at home.

The narrative from all punters was that this was due to a tired team who over achieved last year with the workload causing key injuries into this season and loss of form of other players, we should all applaud Eddie Howe for his valiant efforts after not being able to rotate the team who were now extremely fatigued.

The previous evening we went out losing to a much better team than Milan and all the exact same factors could be cited as valid reasons for our current position and form yet the narrative from the media is that our players the manager and the club are a disgrace and only a total rebuild can save us while Newcastle just need a few players back and the lack of Europe will now give them the rest they need to claim a thoroughly deserved 4th spot yet they sit below us in the league.

We’re apparently glass half empty yet Newcastle are portrayed as glass half full media darlings .

Newcastle do get an easy ride from the media considering they're now just a sportswashing vessel.

All the rival fans saying we had an easy group are completely deluded and ill-informed. Any group is tough in the CL when you are really shiiite.

United spent £2.5bn for their loely exit...A lot more than \NEwcastele and yet I have seen more desire and hunger from the Toon than that bags of rigamatone Utd

United : read Manchester

understand your point, but doesn't that just mean more money is sat out injured?

There is absolutely a fair point in criticising the media coverage of Newcastle. Part of it seems to be because of the English manager, lack of success and the geordie fanbase. All things that kind of work against Man utd from a media POV.

Completely agree with this. They've got Howe who can do no wrong and is a bit of a golden child as I'm sure the expectation would be for Newcastle to have gone big on a manager and gone for a Conte or Ancelotti type or something. They've also got a strong pool of English talent considering they could field an XI of Pope, Trippier, Lascellas, Burn, Livramento, Longstaff, Miley, Willock, Barnes, Gordon, Wilson.

Makes them likeable to the media but they're a bunch of caaaants in my eyes albeit as an Arsenal fan, I accept I've probably got a stronger bias of hatred towards them

Newcastle didn't really have any first teamers out injured. Milan only had one centre back in their squad due to injuries. Even then, this was his first game back from injury.

Not that I would expect English football pundits to have anywhere near the football knowledge that I, or any other average neutral fan would have.

They're missing Pope, Botman, Barnes and Tonali (obviously to a ban).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So like 3 squad players, and it was their fault that they took a gamble on Tonali, so to speak.

This suggests that Newcastle have been extremely lucky with injuries compared to others.

I think we should all wait for Gary Neville’s ruling on their exit

Yes but no more injuries than us ,tough last season, ours was tougher, players out of form, the same, difficulty to rotate we have to use Martial for that.
