Everything I've read about the INEOS approach is encouraging (including a recent profile of Brailsford in the Athletic). It's about nurturing a culture of excellence and accountability, and bringing in expertise to lead in the appropriate areas. In this context, whoever they ultimately appoint has the benefit of my doubt. It's basically the opposite of the Glazer approach: tolerance of mediocrity, lack of accountability, and decisions made by people lacking the relevant competencies.

Yeah, I've been reading the articles on the Athletic and by all accounts they seem really up for it, and quite likely to take 100% ownership of the club in the next 18-24 months.

There's many things they've already said and done which all seems very positive indeed.

Sounds promising, I wonder what is a better option for Ashworth though?

Obviously we're the far bigger club (and currently have a bigger pull) but Newcastle are technically the richest club on the planet and maybe moving forward will give Ashworth more options and greater freedom to do his job?

He sounds good. Anyone seen if he's a good player on YouTube ?

If he did join United he should be announced with a selfie in the dressing room.

You'd imagine for someone half competent they could genuinely get Utd very competitive again in a relatively short period of time, might see it as a challenge that could raise his stock even higher.

This role can be hit or miss, we’ve had some right duds. Ashworth seems to know what he is doing. Our former DoF (still consultant) Fabio Paratici is for me one of the best in the world, in the last two years he’s delivered us Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie, Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison, Bentancur, Kulusevski, with only two of them costing +£35m and several being under £20m.

He’s had a few misses like Gil, and a couple where the jury remains out like Richarlison & Brennan Johnson (although I have a good feeling about him) but overall has quietly done a superb job, which is what you want. Shame half the fackers won’t be available for this weekends game against you
