Premier League or Championship

So I think I posted a similar article a few years back before we actually made it back to the PL. Now that we have tasted the PL again (albeit for only 3 years this time), how do we feel about the possibility of going back there?

For those of you that listen to the TSB podcast, I’m gonna channel my inner Moscow White. He sometimes talks about just wanting to win the Championship year on year and staying there. I’ve always thought this to be utter nonsense and thought that we need to be in the top division playing against the best teams. We are Leeds Utd after all.

On further reflection though, and after suffering 2 miserable years in the PL(after a joyful year return)…I am beginning to wonder if winning games in the Championship is more fun than the painful, if not somewhat embarrassing strive for mid table mediocrity in the PL? The crowd is excited and expectant…the players seem happy and confident…the manager is focused and seemingly in control.

Ok I understand the need for financial stability and PL money, and players want to prove themselves….but other than those obvious reasons, what would you prefer as a fan?

The last year we had in the PL was a disaster and I don’t want that feeling again. Just dreading the next game. How do you feel? Do you crave PL football or are you happy where we are?

If VAR was scrapped in the EPL and they only used goal line tech then I think I would be more excited about the prospect of top level football next season but for me the Championship is more enjoyable by far.

However from a fan perspective, even acknowledging all that, I still want us out of this league this season to renew old rivalries and be financially secure.

I will put up with the inevitable increase in disappointing results in the EPL full of hope that we can still survive and begin our rise however long it takes.

The bottom line is despite the irritating VAR,you just can't help yourself wanting to be back at the top table as I'm sure even Sheffield United fans will be wishing for next season in the EFL after a miserable virtually joyless season back in the Premier league.

The quality of football is so much better in the Premier League. When you think of the best games you have seen in the last ten years, how many will come close to City away, or Liverpool away or the magnificent Wolves away with Ayling scoring the winner?
It’s called the Premier League for a reason. You can’t blame that league because we had a poor team. It is the home of the best football in the world and we have to be a part of it.

Of course it's more enjoyable in the Championship - cos we're winning more matches than we lose, for a change. But as has been said, those memories of the Prem high points, such as Stuey scoring the winner vs Man City, are way above anything we'll experience in the Champ. We're a big fish in a small pond but we don't belong here. Going back up may be our hardest test – which is why I'm disappointed with our poor transfer window. I fear those up there in the boardroom are taking our promotion for granted.

If Rodon or Ampadu get injured, we are in trouble. And why we didn't get a CAM is beyond me. However, the squad looks balanced and versatile enough to manage a couple of injuries. Hurry back, Pascal and DJ!

I agree it’s great to be up there and winning games but the ultimate prize has to be the PL. We want to test our club against the best teams and we are, after all, Leeds United.

There’s no reason why, with some decent owners, we couldn’t get into the top six or eight of the PL.

We should easily be competing with the likes of Wolves, Brighton, Brentford, West Ham and Villa,

Football is about daring to dream, its more a nightmare outside the premier league.

You'd be suprised how often that comes up on talkshows. Norwich and Burnley fans seem to say it a lot, I hear Norwich fans say it a lot, that they'd rather win the championship and then stay down.

Every year that we're in the championship i want us to finish first. It's a great trophy and i'm so glad we didn't go up with Bielsa in second or the playoffs.
For me the championship is crap because we cant keep our best players for too long if we're not in the prem.

Couldn't give 2 sheets whether we finish 1st or 2nd. Its a fizzy pop trophy on Norwich and West Brom seem to keep count of. Villa, Brighton and Brentford didn't win the Champ, and they're having a cracking time.

Premier League, no doubts for me. Highly unlikely we progress into Europe from the Championship (ok, unless we win a cup) but our short-term ambition (next 3 years) should be to be a top 6/7 club in the Prem, qualify for a European competition and make a domestic cup semi-final.
