On the first half, we controlled it pretty much in terms of possession but didn’t create anything which is why motd didn’t show us in possession. It wasn’t an anti-Spurs conspiracy.

They had a few chances to create something but fluffed it.

Wasn’t that impressed with Villa though tbh. Seemed like they were playing bit to lose rather than to win.

idk what it was idr exactly but they didnt look set up right. like they didnt look like their usual self for w.e reason. Maybe Emery did a Pep and otherthought it he is a tinkerer of sorts too isnt he? looks at the fine details of oppositions etc sets his teams accordingly rather than just focusing on their owns trengths.

Emery went 5 at the back handing us the advantage as we could pin their 5 back with our 3 forwards plus Maddison.

That gave us the extra man in midfield which is why we had 70% possession. We were happy to go man for man with Bailey and Watkins - both of whom rely on pace but are slower that VDV who just kept getting back and tackling/blocking.

Villa worked their nuts off without the ball first half, but that alongside their Euro game saw them tire quickly and we put them to the sword in the second half.

Emery got his tactics wrong big time, they should have matched up to us and not give us the midfield advantage

The comments about the MoTD highlights are so laughable. Imagine being triggered by such a minor thing 😂.

TBF Villa did have the better chances in the first half even though we had more possession.

I said just before HT i can see Spurs knicking it the way it was going. They punished them 2nd half, frustrated them too, it was a great away performance in the end especially factoring in the importance of the game. Can fully see why Ange was happy with it.

We helped by Villa playing Ajax on Thursday and Emery's negative tactics. We did what we needed to and won at canter in the end.

More the point , why didn’t motd mention the red card!?

I don’t see why they wouldn’t show us passing, instead we got highlights of Villa recording zero shots on target and an offside

They showed 2 off sides. That one in the 2nd half from Bailey. As well as a tackle from Bissouma on Bailey in the area which wasnt a penalty.

I agree no bias, but if they didnt show these incidents, they would have just had the Digne header as their only Villa highlight

The Beeb even showed that Watkins miss which was offside. When was an offside miss ever a match highlight? Same in the 2nd half from Bailey.

Yep, that was hilarious.

I get the first half was poor in terms of action and clear cut chances, but just show much less of it and more of the second half which was the opposite. Instead it’s like they tried to balance the halves out but filled it with 0 shots

Did anyone else watch the highlights on MOTD? I saw it live but it was the sort of game you don't mind watching the highlights of again to see the analysis. I don't know who was editing that game but it certainly wasn't a Spurs fan. They made it look like Villa dominated the first half and that it looked a bit of a smash and grab until we scored the second. Utter bullshiiiiit. We controlled them from start to finish but you'd never know that from the highlights. Waaannkers

Got to say that Villa's schedule may well have done them in.
First half we could well have been a goal down. VDV played his heart out running back to defend against Villa breakaways from Aussieglue's dangerous high line.
We did nothing to score in the first half.
Second half was completely different.
Pape matte Sarr is a really great find for us, always going forward. A fast break down right wing, a rocket of a center, perfect to Maddison who's technique put a pretty difficult shot into the net, made it look easy!
Two minutes later, another break and Son put it on a plate to Johnson, who made no mistake.
That was 0-2.
And then one of the worst fouls I have ever seen, by mcGinnn on Udogie....no attempt at the ball, just clattered into the man from behind. That was a 3- foul.
After that it was all over and we should not have been playing so much footsie at the back. Now was the time to make the GD count. We got 4 but should have been going for 6.
