What was the problem today?

Genuinely not really sure what the problem/fix is other than just an off day, or us getting whats been coming for a while - we give up a lot of chances, putting lots of pressure on our attack to keep scoring and that didn’t happen today.

Dragu was decent but unfortunately for him headlines will talk about us losing with VDV out.

Ange needs to be more adaptable, but he won’t, so that points me to the personnel: our wingers aint good enough and we need to go big on at least one in the summer - I’d love Olise personally. Kulu is just not good enough, most frustrating player in the squad and plays 90 every facking match.

CM is starting to become a problem with Sarr having to unfairly carry the team because Biss & Bents have been crap.

We should still have enough for top4 in my opinion but lets see. Still not gonna be begging and sucking off arsenal to try and get 5th

Thoughts?

One thing I will say though that I don’t agree with Ange on. As soon as Werner started to show a bit of form, he returned to the bench for the Villa game. Even with Richarlison out and Son playing as the 9. Werner is a confidence player. The fact he was benched for the Villa game yet came on and scored again. For me he should’ve started today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't like how Kulu automatically gets in the team come rain or shine, for the whole game usually. Yes he works hard and runs around, and I guess this is mostly what is swaying Ange to play him so much, but the quality in the final third is lacking from him. Not enough goals or assists.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not in today’s sort of game. But I maybe again our next opponent Luton, I’d love to see Bentancur, Maddison and Kulu in the Midfield.

Kulusevski needs to be more decisive on the right though. And also needs to take the ball to the by line more and use his right foot from time to time. Lots of opponents read him too easily.

It's hard to work out what's quite going on. Anytime I think we'll go on a run of good results it gets broken up by a rubbish result. It was the same when we got hammered by Brighton too.

Maybe we're just not as good as people (including myself) think. I can only hope that this is all as a result of it being Ange's first season of trying to implement the style and mentality into the team and it's simply going to take more time to do, as well as probably better players.

The Villa result was a great result but I made the point before we played them that they had already lost twice at home in their 3 games this year, whereas last year they hadn't lost once. This suggests they might have their own issue with recent home form that helped to flatter us in the game.

Also Fulham did play well and are capable of the upset. Perhaps we underestimated them to a degree.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You’re right: we’re not that good… yet.

The summer will tell you all you need to know👍🏻
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope for our sake it is a case of needing better personnel. It would be worse if it was a managerial problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We need quality.

What worries me is that Ange said he makes all the decisions on players and then we sign Werner and Johnson.

Werner is “a risk free, no brainer” - he was a risk today because he missed another sitter.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He may have chosen to bring in Werner but I have doubts he considered him one for the future, more one just to add a bit of strength in depth in that area for the rest of the season, since he wasn't going to be able to get much else or better in the Jan transfer window. In that respect Werner kind of does a job but we, and I would hope Ange feels this as well, do need someone better long term.

Whatever our thoughts are on BJ and Werner, we can at least take comfort in most of our other signings who Ange must have had a say in too?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We just don’t seem to be able to find and sign decent attackers at Spurs.

We sign Maddison (ok, kind of attacker), VDV, Udogie, Porro, Vic.

We haven’t gone out and signed quality up front since Son and he’s been here ages!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's like it's been a club policy going back for years - not wanting to sign strikers or forwards with really good proven goal scoring records.

Anyway, I hope that as long as we keep looking for new ones and bringing them in, we will eventually come across another one like Son but ideally they need to be here at the same time.

We’re 2 points off fourth with 10 games to go. It’s not conclusive that Villa are better than us. For me there are only 3 sides in the country that are currently better - the obvious 3.

We were 8th last year and sold Kane. It is painfully obvious that we are in a transition phase. For a start I suspect Skipp and PEH gone in the summer and another top CM in. Cover for Romero is needed, cover for Udogie, Maddison and hopefully a more prolific striker.

Paratici has unearthed real quality recently and I suspect he will find more this summer.

But whilst City are around it will be incredibly difficult to achieve a trophy, even if we did start treating domestic cups with respect.

What are peoples expectations?

That Fulham side does have some serious quality to be fair - Paulhinha is class, I like Lukic, Robinson is fantastic going forwards, that Muniz is in red hot form, Leno is a solid keeper.

As disappointed as we are, credit to Fulham today
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree with credit to Fulham today.... they are a better side than their league position.
But we have quality too!
Romero and vdv (not playing today) are world class backs, Udogie is very good.
Madison is a proven talent, Sarr is excellent and Son is world class.
And Vicario is a discovery and will be sought after.

What is not so clear ATM is just how good our manager is....and what tactical thoughts he might have?

Today we were simply outplayed... they jumped all over our midfield and never let us play.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

We’re not gonna know about Ange for another year - it was a tough season from an injury perspective, and we’ve assembled a new team, it takes time to gel. Yet here we are in what is likely to be a CL qualifying place.

If it doesn’t work with Ange though - surely you will be questioning Levy as well Ted? Is he the owner to take us forwards?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, I've always questioned Levy.
But I thought he was giving Aussieglue the players he wanted?
And Aussieglue is supposedly good at talking players like vdv and Dragusin into coming here.
So....what's gone wrong if it ain't Aussieglue's tactics?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're very good in hindsight but tells us the solution or answer(s)...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, we can take it from the horse's mouth that the answer is to strengthen the squad with better players.

I quote.from post match comments..............

“After we conceded the second we didn’t reach the levels of intensity we have had all year,” admitted Postecoglou, who also said that finishing fourth would be “meaningless” to him if he does not see signs of progress from his team. “I don’t see fourth as a prize – it would be great if I feel like we have grown as a team and it’s going to bring us success next year.”

Postecoglou promised this past week that Tottenham’s plan to strengthen his squad in the summer “has already been laid” and reinforcing central defence is expected to be high on the Spurs manager’s wishlist after their fallibility at the back was laid bare here.

They have now conceded more goals than any other top-six side, with the January signing Radu Dragusin making his first start and enduring a testing evening up against Muniz, who was brought into the team after an injury to Raúl Jiménez at the start of February and is now being tipped for a Brazil call-up by his manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So Ange was tactically incompetent today because he could not build a time machine to go to a transfer window and improve the squad further?

Faaacking hell Ted, hold a cogent argument for faaacks sake
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When you go down 3-0 you have to change tactics.
Assieglue did not do that.
And that was the time to move Son into center with Werner on wing and shake the midfield up. But he did nothing until much later.

You can shake this game off as just a bad day.
Okay....I say this....
lets see what happens at the next games.
.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So the next game is Luton, if we beat them 3-0 are you going to completely change your tune and come back on here and say actually Ange is the man.

Have you seen how many games we’ve won after conceding first - were more or less the best side around for that - hence why Ange don’t schitt the bed when we fall behind - we had scored in every game of the season up until today.

This was one of 2 absolute no shows in the league this season, the other being Brighton away where we were so short of players we fielded a front line of Kulu, Veliz and Gil Even then there were controversial decisions against us and we looked like we might pull of a sensational come back

Yeah should have gone to the byline more. I was looking for this during the match. He's more than capable of going round players and there wasn't enough of it from him. Our wingers want to keep cutting in and it doesn't really work.

Yes, we need to beat Luton, West Ham and Forest, the next three. All of them.
And what I want to see is not only wins, but more importantly some sign that Aussieglue is not a one trick pony. I want to see DIFfeReNT tactics being employed during the games, depending upon the situations.

He's the best chance we've had in some time of being a winning manager,....let him prove it now!

Yep, unfortunately though a large section of ours fans are just happy with some attacking football, so Levy has got them off his back and won`t push on to become serial winners. Levy is still mugging the fans off and many still can`t see it.

Fack me, not you 2 🤦🏾‍♂️

Yes 99% of us want levy out but today has little do it with him considering we universally agree that our players underperformed from their level. Unless of course you think this is the level of player Levy bought, in which case ange has done wonders to get us to 5th?

Automatic wants to blame ange, levy, the fans, the pitch, the weather, his mum etc etc
