5th? After todays result at Villa we should be look in front, not behind.

I honestly think 5th is already nailed. If we beat Forest and United drop points against Liverpool it’s over.

What part doesn't work?

Your goal difference is massively better than theirs.
If you win and they lose (expected results) you will be 12 points ahead of them, with only 21 points available for Man Utd to win. So if you get 9 more points after tomorrow the best they can do is match you, and it unlikely that will be enough.

I haven't looked at the table, but if as of today we need 15 points to be guaranteed to beat them, then it's not possible for us to only need 9 points to be guaranteed to beat them, after we've each played one more game.

Of course it is, I have just explained it.
United can get 72 points if they win all their games. If they lose tomorrow that falls to 69.
Spurs are on 57 points and need 15 points to get to 72. If United lose Spurs only need to get to 69. If Spurs win they will be on 60 and they will only need 9 points to get to 69.

It is quite simple maths really.

All I know is that if we need 15 points now, then the least we are going to need after 1 more game for both clubs* is 12 points!

*not playing one another in that game

The target of 15 points is based on the most United can get = 72 points.

If United lose that target drops by 3 points to 69.

Spurs are currently on 57 points, 15 short of the 72.
If United lose the target is 69. Spurs would be 12 short of that before they kick off. Thus if Spurs win they would be on 60 points, just 9 short of 69. A 6 point swing from now.


Obviously it is all pretty irrelevant as Spurs should finish 4th comfortably and Villa should be doing the maths.
