Same as Sheffield Utd were in their second season.
The question we are to scared to answer is...
If everyone now knows how to play against us, will we adapt?
I think we all know the answer is if plan A isn't working, do plan A better.
I'm concerned this may all fizzle out.
Destiny has dropped off a cliff, luckily his fall was softened by landing on Maddison.
When I saw athe front 3 today, my heart sank. Then Timo decided to try to volley a free header and my heart drowned.
It would take a monumental effort to finish below 5th, which would have to be considered a success following last year, I just worry for the future.
Really hope we have scouted and agreed a No. 9.
We Have been Sussed!

Spurs have had a great season, all things considered. It might just be a dip.
The big question, as it always is at Spurs, is whether the club will properly back the manager in the summer.
Probably not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How have they had a great season? 5th in the league which as things stand won’t be enough for CL. 8 league defeats. Out of both cups early. Multiple spankings. If the rest of their games go to form, they will finish on 6 points more than last season, form which was bad enough to get 2 managers the sack in 1 season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Based on spend, Spurs should be what, 6th?
Started the season by losing arguably the best striker in the world.
New manager, new system.
Maybe ‘great’ is reaching, but it’s a good season for them imo and plenty to build on.

It’s been f*cking ordinary, that’s it.

Ange deserves to be fully judged next season, after Levy has had 3 windows to acquire (some of) the players he needs to play his system.
Ange will likely be left short like all his predecessors were, but there still should be signs of improvement next season, and if not then questions would need to be asked.
You have to remember who Ange is working for, Levy has never fully backed any of his managers (even when on the brink of achieving things) and it will be no different for Ange.

49 goals conceded at this stage with 6 games to go is awful. That's higher than the totals of all the past seasons since 2014-15 with the exception of last season, though when you consider who we have coming up we might even concede more than the 63 we conceded last season.
The funny thing is the goals conceded for most of the teams around us is also awful. Villa have conceded the same amount. Defences are truly terrible in the league at the moment apart from for the top 3.

One of the main concerns I have about the tactics is that yes we are completely open, everyone knows that. But even more worryingly is our inability to breakdown low blocks. Thinking back to even the redknapp and poch eras, we’ve usually struggled against low blocks, but here it is even more glaring and easier to counter.
Having our fullbacks as attacking mids actually is a negative on 2 parts - 1 is of course we are exposed on counter and 2 they further congest an already congested attacking third. Its literally impossible for the attack to do anything other than pass around from wing to wing, only for werner to run into a dead end. Painful to watch

I've never been Levy's biggest fan but as far as backing a new manager, I think Ange has had a decent start, certainly compared to other managers. We've bought a new keeper, 2 new defenders, a new number 10, a new winger, and most would consider these to be good players/signings, certainly from what we've seen so far. That's over £150m on these guys. We did lose Kane which was a blow but there's a good team in what we've got left and I haven't included money spent on sealing deals for loan players either.
Ange has been backed adequately so far.

Said it on the other thread - it’s his first season. Pep struggled, Klopp came 8th, Arteta won the cup but was bobbins in the league.
Let’s also remember we sold a generational talent in the summer after a season where the club was absolutely toxic. Ange has gotten quite a few things right this year and absolutely deserves another season.
If there is no plan B this time next year then alarm bells absolutely should be ringing, but for the remainder of this season it’s a case of making the most of what we have and hope that’s enough for Europe - I’m still worried we could lose to all of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and City and United and Newcastle catch us - it’s likely that won’t happen, but not a certainty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Under normal circumstances I think you’re right. It’s his first season and we can’t expect miracles…. BUT… I think the reason why there’s so little in the way of excitement is because progress isn’t linear. When Poch came in, we struggled to start with, then we started to get better and better with each passing month. With Ange, we owe a lot regarding our current league position to those first 12 unbeaten games when his tactics were new to the league. Since then we’ve been found out a little bit, are leaking goals (would be far more without Vicario) and have dropped down the league. Our form since November is bang average, nearer mid table so if progress isn’t linear, it’s hard to see which direction the club is heading. Those previous managers you spoke of steadily improved. You could see them getting better in their first season so the hope was always there that the rise would continue.
Ange started well and dipped and now we can’t get it back. We have the same players but we all seem to think they’re no longer performing as well. No one has stopped to consider the fact that the opposition might not be letting them play their game. Our best players might have dipped because we’ve been found out tactically. There’s nothing to be admired in being stubborn and steadfast in your philosophy if your philosophy is flawed. Even Pep and Klopp make tactical tweaks in order to win. You can’t always go out there and play your game, particularly when hammerings like yesterday have become so frequent. It’s almost arrogant to ignore it.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results.

Nonsense about players we have a good squad it needs improving but the manager is really letting us down.
Newcastle had a makeshift side with murphy at right back, dubravka whos like Lloris was is a yard off the pace of the game. They won 4-0.

Exactly we have a good* squad that’s why we are hanging around 4th or 5th.
To get higher we need a great squad.
I don’t actually think it’s that good tbh just have around 14 good players out of the 25

If Werner had taken one of his early chances then the low block becomes something different.
It is difficult to break these down but we still do create chances. We lack the clinical finishing of a proper striker.
For me i see our recent result as a combination of the following.
1. Some players are off form. Biss, Maddison, Son were on fire in the start, and now we are getting less from them. Sun has played a lot but Biss has no excuses. He's gone from dominating to failing to fulfil ay defensive or creative role. ( I thought PEH deserved to start ahead of him vs NUFC).
2. We have been sussed to a degree BUT for me there is a lack of energy in out high press. Newcastle hounded our players in possession while we let them play, giving them time to hit the easy balls into space. I have no real problem with the space that's there but if we are going to allow teams to play then that space becomes an issue.
2 of their goals came from us losing possession on the edge of their area.
This energy issue points to a decent lack of depth. Players like Maddison & Son look jaded for whatever reason.
3. We lack a proper striker. There was debate about Son wide & Richy central (or vice versa) in the early season, but for me its obvious that Son cannot hold up the ball, we have no option to put aerial balls into the box, and when we face low blocks so frequently, we totally needs these attributes to retain the ball and create chances. Currently it is all too intricate and we are being crowded out and then countered time and time again.
If its Son on the end of those Werner chances its at least 1 goal. He can still be very effective from wide, and we need a mobile, physical finisher at 9. Better than Richy who would still be a valuable squad backup.
4. more depth needed at LB and CM. In fact I would have a striker and a CM for the starting XI as a priority for the summer, then back up LB & CB.
I have not lost faith in Ange but my belief is being tested a tiny amount because we have seen this sort of performance quite a bit in the 2nd half of the season
