Trent

Whilst I love his technique, vision, free kicks and goals, what he did last night in a must win Derby was unforgivable. And I can’t let it go.

Ducking out of that header for the first goal is unacceptable at that level. He bottled it completely. The message that sends was seen loud and clear at Goodison Park. Gives the Everton players a lift and the crowd a lift. Wonder what some of the Liverpool players thought about him for ducking out of a challenge in a white hot derby??

I know what I think.

Does it still mean more ?🤣
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Means more than it does for City, that’s for sure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope City go on and win it now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep this, nobody cares if City win it, so all aboard the City hype train.

"nobody cares if City win it..."

This is what I don't understand about this copium: why would anyone else, other than the supporters of the winning club, care? Stupid statement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What a bizarre statement. Tell that to all your supporters on your board posting articles about us today then I guess?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Going by your logic, posting "...no-one cares..." mean that you DO care? Make your mind up, mate.

I said I do not care if City win the league, how hard is this for you to understand?

Anyways...away from Nick's foolishness.

I don't know how many times Klopp has said that the system is setup for Trent to influence the game as he sees fit and it's up to the rest of the team to cover for him. He jogs back because that's what he is told to do. I'm not exempting him from criticism...just stating that Klopp knows the risks he takes with playing Trent the way he plays him....it's just that he rathr put his faith in Trent to hurt the opposition more than he rather restrict Trent just so we don't concede a few chances.

Klopp has always been high risk and he always rather risk his soul on our strengths than cover our weaknesses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is absolutely bang on. I don’t think people understand the role that Trent is TOLD to play.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He may he told to play that way. But that does not cover for him being breezed past by wingers in 1 v 1 situations every single game. It happened again last night. I appreciate that fullbacks will lose the battle from time to time but his arent even battles. He just lets them go.

He may very well be given licence to play with freedom when we have the ball but without it he still needs to work defensively. And he isnt. Hes at an age and status level now where I personally think hes just abandoned working on that aspect of the game.

Midfield for me. No idea if that will work but hes too good a player on the ball not to try it. We give away far too much with him defensively at right back that it needs to change.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree in part but I could put Trent in a flat four with a hard working RW in front of him and ask him not to drift into midfield and he’d look far more solid defensively. We know this as we’ve seen him do it and be part of VERY good defences.

However, I don’t think he’s a natural defender and I don’t think he enjoys defending.

Tbf I also wanted him in midfield four years ago and was almost universally laughed at.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No he defo doesnt enjoy it and I think thats the big thing for me now, that hes making that plainly obvious.

Bradley has shown that inverted role can be played whilst still looking sharp and aggressive defensively. Ive felt for a while now that its almost as if trents making a point, that he cannot be bothered defending.

I’m not sure Bradley inverts, he certainly overlaps. He’s a proper full back and has a bit of Rob Jones about him.

Indeed. You've never given me a reason why you would care about caring for a rival's success other than the other guy gaslighting and you repeating that you don't care.

Bradley inverted like twice I think...the one game he found himself in some good positions. Can't really remember anything other than that.

We've been conceding goals ALL season though...whether it's Trent or Bradley. Robbo or Tsimikas or Gomez. Konate or Quansah.

Again though its not really the attacking point im that bothered about. Its the fact he is aggressive in the defensive part of the game. Hes not trent with the ball at his feet but he is similar and has the potential to be like a robertson which will do for me.

Maybe trent playing the right side of midfield role would be a better fit with someone like bradley behind him. I dont think he could play the 6. I think itll just be the same except in a far more dangerous area of the pitch. Sure we'll get the hollywood passes and moments of brilliance but we'll also get players breezing past him right into our cbs.

I really dont know what the answer is. In a perfect world hed just put a bit of work into his defensive game but I think we are beyond that now.

If there's one reason why I would want Trent to not invert is for the simple reason that Salah is not forced out wide to hold the width all by himself...and it will also ease the responsibilities of Szoboszlai who sometimes looks lost when he has to balance the shape based on what Trent is doing.

I mentioned it before...ever since Ancelotti pointed out how predictable we are, we've been trying to be too fluid at times. We have 3 or 4 main shapes that we interchange in during games but sometimes it just looks like we wing it too.

Probably why you’re so hard to defend against, but struggle to stop teams creating chances as it leaves holes defensively. There’s obviously been some decline in the personnel defensively compared to a few years ago, but it’s very hard to drill a team defensively to be changing shape all the time.

Wasn’t great play but I don’t think he bottled it one bit. In fact I think it’s a silly thing to say.

The second goal is rank amateur management and I put that on Virgil. He’s the fvcking captain, he’s the one who should be picking up DLC.

After DCL scored he turned around to blame people when it was entirely on him.

Was surprised at his post match comments tbh.

I thought he was complaining to the ref that one of the Everton players blocked him off, stopping him getting to Calvert-Lewin.
