Ange getting overrated?

I've seen and heard a lot of talk in the media lately about how Ange and Spurs are doing. There seems to be a general feeling of positivity towards what he's done so far but the more I think about the season the more I think about what a let down it's been.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReK6OAQQmIE

The doofus pundit on there even says it's been a "superb" first season.

Let's have it right, the season Villa are having I would maybe describe as superb. For ourselves it's turning into a very run of the mill season.

You can point to progress made in the league and how we were 8th last season and now find ourselves 5th, but many people in the media aren't reflecting on the season as a whole or all of the facts. No European football this time round to distract us from other goals, and then early exits in the cups meant our sole focus was the league by January. We're on the same number of points as we finished with last season with 5 games to play but have Chelsea, Liverpool, City and a Burnley fighting for survival as 4 of those fixtures. Chances are it could be only a few more points gained on last season.

We were unlucky with injuries earlier in the season for a bit and Kane was sold before it started, but it's still a good team and other clubs have had spells of injury problems. So top 4 almost gone with 5 games to go and nothing else to show for the season when you didn't have European football. I mean Chelsea have underperformed in the league without Europe as well though they at least got far in both cups. Even before the injuries where our form was good we did get extremely lucky against Liverpool.

Ange tactically has started raising more and more questions regarding his style and the defence. The fact that the defence is just as bad as last season's, which was a 20 year high of goals being conceded is rather shambolic, given the new personnel whom we all tend to rate. This has not been a great season by any means.

If you look at Poch's first season for example, he inherited a team that needed a bit of work too, and he finished 5th on 64 points, had Europe in the background, reached a cup final, and spent nowhere near the £200m Ange has, all while having a significantly worse team. Fair to say I expected more. This isn't a 'Poch in' narrative or an 'Ange out' one either, just my observations on how some have been carried away with praise for Ange, particularly in the media. I will nevertheless give him time going into next season.

Slightly negative I know and 1 star me if you want, it's just kind of reflective of how I am about Spurs currently.

Hopefully I've jinxed it for us to play great tonight and get a stand out victory and soon get top 4 back on track.

Patience is needed.

I AGREE, Ange needs a new 10 year contract...🤣

Also I felt there was an element of Phil Brown about his public dressing down of the players. That sort of thing never ends well and players do not like being publicly embarrassed like that. It’s the mark of desperation because it’s quite performative. Almost as if he’s shouting at the players, he’s absolving himself of blame. Fat cretin.

Where/when? Him shouting on the sideline? If yes then Nothing wrong with that

Ange is getting a massively easy ride from the media. Serious questions need to be asked.

I admittedly thought we would still get 4th and no need to panic but seems I was wrong. 10 defeats in 24 matches is terrible
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You thought we could still get 4th before tonight? Wow

The way we've been playing lately we were never going to. It actually felt like a very predictable performance and result tonight. We can't create, and we can't defend and tonight was another example of it.

I think I might drop my 6/10 rating for this season to a 5. No top 4, early cup exits, Chelsea did the double over us, lost to Arsenal at home, hammerings to Newcastle, Chelsea, Brighton, Fulham, 54 goals conceded with 4 games to go, about to lose 4 games in a row which we've not done for 20 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh no no lol. I meant even after getting smashed by fulham 3-0. I knew top4 was long gone.

Also dont forget losing at home to west ham too. We didn’t beat any of our rivals home/away and actually lost all 3 home games. Disgusting

I thought it was a little performative, constructed entirely to distance himself from any blame for the shiiitshow we witnessed tonight. It wasn’t just regular advice from the sidelines. He knew it was going to make headlines.

I thought we would win this one, but......
the wrong Spurs showed up today.
Something is wrong, maybe the manager?

And your players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yesh well that's down to the manager, ain't it?

Not sure it’s the manager’s fault your players aren’t very good.

To an extent, yes.

Managers get far, far too much blame, and also praise for, the level that their players play at.

I knew and predicted we would not lay a glove tonight had us down for a 3-0 loss. Prayed and cheered along in hope we would get something.

I expect the same on sunday a 5-0 loss we look toothless and emerson will be completely rinsed at left back. Not his fault he tries but he is not cut out for it.

This is all on Ange he is so far out of his depth. He would struggle in the Championship.

I never criticise Levy but the answer was there In Poch and we went for ange because he is scott munns mate.

Going back to a manager who won nothing with Kane with a team without Kane wasn't the answer.

It would have been a lazy appointment. By in large I think we can all agree we approve of the new data lead approach of buying players. Most have been a success individually and Ange has embraced it. Would Poch?

After he wasted millions on the likes of Ndombele ect I'm not sure if he was the one for the rebuild.

We wanted Levy to have less of a say in transfers and move away from football so appointing Munn who was successful with the City Group, on paper was a good appointment.

I don't think a pre season tour to Oz should have any bearing on recent results or be used as stick to beat them with tbh.
