A game of pros and cons

Pros:
Seemed like Richy's best performance since returning from injury. Really affected the game.
Managed to make the scoreline much more respectable than it was looking like it would be.

Cons:
Literally everything else.

So swings and roundabouts really.

Any manager who leaves Emerson Royal on at LB against Salah for 61 mins while he has players like Dragusin on the bench is a total moron.

Seen a stat earlier - points after first 35 games

Ange - 60
Klopp - 58
Arteta - 50

As annoying as this run in has been. We showed promise before the injury and suspension blighted spell happened. Not to mention players going to AFKON and returning with malaria. Losing the clubs best ever striker and his replacement having mental ill health.

Ange is trying to also overhaul the most pragmatic defensive spurs team for over a decade to a more progressive attacking team.

It simply won’t happen overnight. And most importantly will take patience from the fans and Levy. Especially given the parameters of the clubs budget and expenditure.

Ange should be given at least another season in charge, remember he did warn us that it would be a bumpy ride in his first season.
How did Klopp do in his first season? Finished 8th and out of FA Cup in 4th round. So if we finish 5th or 6th we get Europa League, which if people are honest is more than we anticipated after losing Kane.
I do feel some Spurs supporters have feelings of entitlement in regard to trophies and the PL.

Arsenal fans in the not too distant past were calling for Arteta to be sacked, wind forward to now and he is the bees knees.

The moral of this is simple, give managers the time and support and the club is more likely to succeed
Even Ferguson was only 90 minutes away from the sack way back before United’s successes under him, the rest is history.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Any comparisons with Klopp and Arteta should be forgotten about. Both joined mid season and didn't have the luxary of a summer like Ange has had. But they also didn't lose a worldie on the eve of season.

Both manage clubs, like it or not, who have success engrained in their DNA. Man Utd as well.

We don't.

Klopp joined Liverpool two months into season, whilst Arteta joined Arsenal in the December. Whilst Klopp changed Liverpool’s playing style successfully and within 1.5 seasons, Arteta’s progress was much slower and it is only over the last 18 months has his style proved he was right in persevering with his direction he wants Arsenal to go.
My point is really that we need to accept that the playing style and thought processes at Spurs need to change massively.
I do believe that once certain players are gone and suitable new players recruited we will see a significant change in how we view both the team and Ange.
However, even though I am a big fan, I do think he does need to stand back at ask himself why he does not appear to have any alternative options if the all out attack method is not working.
Our key weaknesses need to be addressed in the next window:
a) Finding a way to beat the low block and teams narrowing the field of play. b) Why are we so poor on set pieces such as corners etc. We have possibly best pair of CB’s in the PL apart from Saliba & Gabriel, so we should be winning more than our fair share of aerial duels.
We should be looking at Vicario can be better trained to deal with crosses, he is a super keeper but flawed in that respect.
A better or additional DM who can influence and curtail the opposition’s ability to get at the back line.
And of course we do need a top class goal scorer up front, who that should be is up in the air. Names bandied around include Calvert-Lewin, Toney, Solanki plus the usual suspects from abroad.
All good players but not sure if they would suit us or exponentially improve the team.

Maybe we need to put some faith and trust some of our youngsters like Lankshear, Donley and Moore.
Also we have Bergvall coming in the summer and he supposed to be exceptional in central midfield and tipped to be a PL star.

I have supported the club since October 11th 1958, so have experienced virtually every emotion and scenarios one can imagine. I certainly hope that I can witness some real good highs before I pass on from the World.

If spurs could have played the first half the way they played the last 20 minutes of this game, it would have been very different.
THat said,Richarlison is such a frustrating player, a CF who cannot take any half-chance that comes his way...I counted 4 such that Kane would have made easy work of.
Richarlison has to go.

But I think the biggest challenge is the manager. Is he worth another season? Can he discover a plan B for defensive situations? If not, then he has to go too.

Hi Ted

As you know I am a fan of Ange, however I am also a pragmatist. My views on Ange are that he deserves two full seasons before he can be truly judged. However the players also have to stand up and be counted.
I know we have been linked with Gallagher fro Chelsea, although I am not convinced as to whether he would improve the team exponentially, no one can doubt his energy levels or commitment. Just for those two traits he would be an asset.

I remember when I was 21 and extremely fit, I was getting selected for the RAF & Combined Services and played in a number of different positions for both teams. I like to think I was reasonably talented as a two footed player and also because my fitness levels were as good as anyone around at the time.
I was told on numerous occasions that natural aggression and never give up attitude was extremely valuable to any team I played for.
My point is that I can forgive a player who is not performing at their optimum levels but who despite his performance dipping runs his heart for the team.
What I cannot abide is a player who just goes through the motions without putting a proper shift.
Take Son for instance, has not been performing greatly recently yet he still chases and harries the opposition, the fans appreciate this.

Hii GG,
I gave up football after school, played tennis instead.
However, playing for the school in any of the representative teams was an honor, and not putting in one's best never entered anyone's head. If you did that, you would not find yourself playing in the next match!

It was a British boarding school I went to. And the sports field was where you really found out who your classmates were. PT classes 3 times a week were mandatory (rope climbing and somersaults over the horse etc). And boxing was a mandatory inter-house sport. I hated boxing, much preferred track & Field.
I also rowed in a novice eight on the river Thames for 2 years while at University. That, in winter, will sort the men from the boys! And you can't slack off in an eight without getting tossed in the water.

Tottenham squad is going to need a substantial overhaul, and I doubt Levy is up to it.
E.g., several players are not good enough, Son is getting older, so maybe only a couple more years there.
I fear it will be more than Ange can deal with. Its a pity because we have the best back four in the league. But I'll wait to be surprised!

During the season we have suffered a lot of injuries to key players, quite a few at the same time. We lost Romero to a red card and VDV to injury and had to use Davies and Royal as CB’s.
We lost players to international tournaments in January.
Some players playing through injuries and below average performances.
We have many players that just don’t suit Ange’s tactics, especially squad players which has to be resolved.

Ange needs time to build a squad that can play his way, start of the season we’d be happy with Europa league, 5th place finish but the start of the season increased expectations.

Let’s see if Levy will back Ange and give him what he needs to have a shot at succeeding before taking shots at him.

No manager gets a full squad list to choose from throughout an entire season. He has had near full strength options for a few months, the odd injury here and there will always happen.

Injuries will happen, are we saying that he basically had this a rolling excuse every season? Because we will definitely have injuries next season too. But we will just accept bad performances and results based on the inevitable happening?

I do think the best managers show their worth when things aren't quite going right. Ange has done the opposite.

Go over that second half and count the passes into the box that Richarlison fluffed.I counted 4.
Kane's strength lies in taking such chances. Go look!
