Well, it looks very likely we will be in this comp next season. I rate our CL chances at 0%, Conference league about 10% and no Europe altogether at 1%
So let’s take a look at next seasons Europa. Firstly, it will follow the same format as the CL revamp:
36 teams in one league
8 group games against 8 different opponents, 4 home and 4 away
The final 2 group games are played in mid to late Jan
The top 8 in the league go to the round of 16
Places 9-24 have to play a playoff with the winners going to the round of 16
No CL dropdowns anymore
I really like some of this - no CL dropdown, 8 group games and a chance to avoid the first knockout round for performing well in the group stage.
Not a fan of the randomness of the fixtures as some teams will inevitably get the short straw - which usually means Spurs.
I think if we took this seriously we would have a chance with no CL calibre sides. Where we will gain is that Italy and Germany getting the extra CL spots means we will be facing the 6/7th best sides in those divisions - there is a good chance that could be Bologna and Fiorentina from Italy if Fiorentina win the conference which they are now faves for. Germany are likely sending Frankfurt and Freiburg. Spain representatives will likely be Bilbao and Sociedad/Betis. France will be Nice and Rennes/Lyon.
That’s the major leagues. Portugal will be Braga and Vitoria, Holland AZ and Twente - possibly Ajax who are having a shocker.
When you look at who will be in it, both Spurs and Newcastle should fancy their chances, there is no elite side and if you finish top 8 you won’t hit one of the better sides until the quarters at the earliest.
Normally Spurs prioritise a game at Wolves away over winning silverware for some reason - but if we could buck the habit of rotating ourselves to death then I would fancy us to get to a semi final next season - finally giving us something to look forward to in may for the first time in 5/6 years

According to the tables on Flashscore, 3rd awards an EL Group Stage berth.
Porto aren't even guaranteed third though. They visit Braga on the final day, and Braga are just a point behind (although Braga have also got a toughie away to Vitoria Guimarães before then).

Didn't Liverpool win the League Cup, meaning that an extra space is automatically given to the next team down in the league, meaning 6th will still qualify for the Europa, and not the conference?

Okay, I've just done a bit of research. For some reason EFL cup winners no longer qualify for the Europa League, which seems harsh. They only enter the Conference league meaning 6th is NOT a Europa League place as I first thought. Strike is right, 6th will only qualify if City win the cup.

That’s it fridge, at the start of the season top 4 get CL, 5th gets Europa, FA cup winner gets Europa and League cup gets Conference.
The cups tend to be won by the top 6 moving euro spots down in the league to top 7 and if in the future England finish in the top 2 co efficient table then Europe could go down as far as 8th. Give it a decade and it will be top 10.
So yeah if Newcastle catch us then we are waiting on the cup final result to know which euro comp we will be in. If Newcastle and Chelsea catch us then we will need City to win or we will miss out on Europe altogether.
Beating Burnley on Saturday will more or less guarantee Euro entry though in my opinion, I can’t see both Chelsea and Newcastle winning out and United winning the FA cup - even with “Spursiness”

This is it. If we win against Burnley and Sheff United, as we should do, 5th is guaranteed no matter what the others. Even if we dropped points to one of those two, Newcastle will have to go to Old Trafford and win, which, despite their issues, is bloody tough. I can see Chelsea winning all their remaining games though but they're 6 behind so a win against Burnley and a draw against Sheff United would be enough (on account their goal difference is creeping up).
If we don't do it from here, we don't deserve Europe at all.

Absolutely, in fact I would say Ange should walk if we somehow manage to finish below these woeful Chelsea and United sides this season.
Burnley have to win on Saturday or they are relegated. That means if we can avoid an early brain fart concession then they will have to open up against us and I fancy we will put them to the sword. Win it and it’s done, I think Chelsea will drop points.
Would be great if Ange came out at the start of next season and said words to the effect of “ we have a great opportunity in the Europa and will go flat out for it”

Worth remembering that Forest have Chelsea at home and a win for them sees them stay up. Burnley will try but I get the feeling they know it's done for them now. It's doubtful they'll camp in against us because they need the win, which probably helps us.
Forest won't want to go to the final day needing a win at Burnley to stay up so I can see them absolutely going for it against Chelsea to get the job done on their own patch. If they take an early lead, I can see Burnley heads dropping.

If we fail to even get 5th… then it’s an absolute disgrace, seeing as we’ve got to play the bottom 2 teams!!

We’re in free fall though and that can be tough to stop. I think we will beat Burnley and then be on the beach. Will the players really care about finishing 5th instead of 6th - I doubt it. Worth pointing out also that our record at Bramall lane is abysmal, they are a bit of a bogey side for us
