Supposedly his last album and he’s going out with a retro pastiche of his slim shady era. The guy is imo a top 5 of all time rapper who to my recollection has always outshone every rapper he’s dueted with starting when he punked Jay Z on his own song ‘Renegade’ and just kept being the best thing on every guest slot he was booked on.
Somehow as the years have gone by he’s become severely underrated by some who don’t even thing he’s a top 20 of all time rapper. Hopefully history judges him correctly.
Eminem is BACK!

Saying he went pop is just a manner of speaking. Something changed whatever you call it. For me his best music was made with Dr Dre involved. Lost something soon after that IMO.

And Dre was covered by ICe Cube his early days. Eminem is not better than cube.

He’s fine but he appeals more to people who aren’t really into rap. He helped get me into it when I was a kid, and I like his early albums. But there are so many better.

Woooo... stirred up a hornets nest with this.
Mans thought DJ was alone with his Eminem take.
I mean, I could’ve easily named about 40 artists that I’d prefer to listen to...
Em is still a great lyricist but, it’s true, I ain’t listened to his stuff since...man, it must be approaching nearly 15 or so years..

The Ronaldo/Eminem comparison is quite a funny one actually. Reading some of the hipster nostalgia rap trash on here reminds me a lot of fans who put Cantona in their PL XI, say Paul Gascgoine was a world class footballer, or say George Best was better than Messi.
They just remember those guys’ best hits and pretend it’s the standard they held themselves to for their entire careers. It’s a small and unusual minority but they put arguments forward anyway. Kinda what I’m seeing here with idiotic suggestions that Method Man, Ice Cube and Rakim were better rappers than Em.

Ice Cube and Rakim are so far clear of Eminem is is actually embarrassing having to put them in the same sentence.

Just thinking about this comment and just can't help think it very much sums up your own love for Eminem. You would have been in your early teens when Eminem came out and would have been at the height of his career in your formative years. I would guess he was your introduction to rap, probably the first album you bought. His gimmicky raps about pop stars your peers were into (especially the girls you liked), his sing song style of certain tracks, the controversy and swearing that made you feel a rebel listening as he talked of the women in his life, as you sometimes found yourself briefly thinking about after being reprimanded by your own mother, the memories of good times of youth soundtracked by his hits.
Coming in as the Golden Era of hip-hop died with the deaths of Pac and Biggie, he was the golden child emerging from the ashes along with 50 Cent. For people hitting their teens at that time they seemed to be Hip-Hop, and that was the cool thing dominating the charts. You never forget your first love, and often over-romanticise it. Tbf I am the same with David Rocastle, Paul Davis, Michael Thomas and the rest of the young guns who brought Arsenal back to glory in the late 80s.
