Clubs from your homeplace

It's silly season. And a bit quiet on here. As expected. I am not a great poster, but here goes:

Summer. Beach. Holidays. Sunshine. Rain. Thunder, and lightning.
Grilling. Sweating. Stupid paper stories.

Stealing the drinks from your neighbour's table, while they turn around, following the pointing of your finger, with your words: "Say isn't that ----(insert Leeds player)

Leeds United is our team, yes. But as Leeds is a world brand, lots of us Leeds fans were not born and bred in Leeds.

Those of us who weren't, have of course football clubs in the cities/towns or places we were born, and/or grew up in.

Leeds stumbled on the finishing line, as we all know too well.

But how did the clubs from where you are from do?

Relegation? Promotion? Or mid-table obscurity?

Me? Well; the club from my birthtown; Holstein Kiel, got promoted to the Bundesliga. They haven't played in the first tier, since my birthyear, of 1963

I'd rather not talk about the club in the town I'm currently living.

How about you?

Dartford got relegated after a disastrous season.
Finn Harps have had a decent start to Division 1 in Ireland but are just about hanging on to a play off place.

A couple of years ago, the team where I was born was relegated out of the football league and now are mid-table in the National League, this is the downside of having two massive clubs as your near neighbours. I can go and watch them at Eastleigh.

Hi Loidis and thanks for the thread👍.

Well my Mum, who brought me up, was a Hunslet lass (hence my life-long devotion) and my Dad was a dyed-in-the-wool Brentford supporter. For many a decade, I would keep an eye on Brentford in the old 4th and 3rd divisions at a (even then) crumbling Griffin Park … never would I have thought that one day they were the team for us (er, Leeds that is😁) to try and emulate. Funny old world👍.

I never had a true "homeplace" as a kid. My dads job had us travelling round the country for years, certainly my early years. He was a geordie and massive Newcastle fan, so by default I was kitted out in black and white for a few years (including my first visit to ER in the early 70s!).

But then Sunday afternoon TV, I started watch Leeds, with commentary from I think it was Keith Macklin (could be wrong). I just got hooked on Leeds from that point. He was gutted. I've never drifted from supporting Leeds ever since. Always had season tickets for local clubs when abroad (Roda/Sporting Lisbon/Bari), but Leeds has always been my club.

I'll always have a soft spot for Newcastle (unless we're playing them), because of his memory.

Yep, but ‘knee high to a grasshopper’ Spanish … depending on when your family was in Hunslet, our forefathers could have met down t’pub🍻

What is annoying for me, is that our neighbour town is in the top tier of Norwegian football.

My local club is in 3rd division.

And they are better than us in icehockey as well. It's a tough life...

Thanks for sharing guys. Been a good read

- my family still lived in chapel Allerton at that time, moved to Westbiry Terrace in hunslet when I was 18 ish, some great days in the pubs over there, the Queens, the Parnaby, the punch clock, crocked billet, and George the 4th (near the big morrisons), good times, rough pubs tho haha.

all a little different these days, its more popping in for a cucumber sandwich and a pint diet coke in Bramhope
