Man Utd consider De Ligt move

Manchester United have started internal talks about a move for Bayern Munich's 24-year-old Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt, who the German club value at about 50m euros (£42.3m). (Sky Sport Germany via TZ), external

Manchester United do not intend to match Everton's £70m valuation of England defender Jarrad Branthwaite, 21, and will threaten to walk away from any deal, having had an initial offer worth up to £43m rejected. (Mirror)

On de Ligt, I'm not sure he is the right player we want nor on the wages we want. But Bayern fans on Reddit here (https://www.reddit.com/r/fcbayern/comments/1deviaj/manchester_united_are_closely_monitoring_the/) say he's their best defender. I can't say I watched him often enough this season, though if we want to play a high line in the PL, I'm not sure he could cope with that. And on the wages he'd demand, that's the biggest issue because if he flops like many have done before, it would be hard to shift him.

What does look good is we are telling Everton we'd walk away. So this news may be just a smoke screen in the Branthwaite saga. Or they all could be a number of players we're looking to bring in.

He’s the Dutch Mugwire.

You mean the best defender we had all year for club and country?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Solid enough, but slow as fck and unsuited to the style of football the manager wants to play maybe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
De Ligt is faster than him (which is not saying much) but most importantly hes a youngish player with massive experience something we will need.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He ain't very good though mate. When Eric Dier goes ahead of you in the pecking order then alarm bells should be going off.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bayern fans have been complaining all season about Tuchel playing Dier ahead of De Ligt.

He is wont to make some pretty weird looking decisions about players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Either way.....he's still not great and he is incredibly slow. How do we try to move towards playing a high line and squeezing the game with De Ligt in the team?

ETH should get zero input on transfers for me. He should get given the player that suit a style coming from the new team when it's fully in place and he should be left to coach them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven’t seen a lot of him, but as I wrote above, when I have seen him, he hasn’t looked slow over distances.

Turns slowly, doesn’t accelerate quickly, but can move.

How do you know that ETH has anything to do with this, by the way?

Bayern don't usually sell their best players. So I would caution the move. And if he has had injuries, then seeing how we have dealt with injuries for years, it's probably best to stay clear. Our medical department is yet to be sorted out.

Also, how would Sky Sports *Germany* learn that United were beginning *internal* talks about whether to make an approach for De Ligt? There’s an excellent chance the story is garbage.

Cutler told them. He would have been in that meeting

Whilst I don't think ETH should get to pick all the players he wants or be the main point for possible transfers but he should have an input into potential transfers, not a veto but as coach his thoughts should at very least be considered?

After Antony, onana, and the rest of them? You want to put trust in this man's ability to make good transfer decisions?

Oh no, he shouldn't be the one making the call Ala the players you mentioned no I just think that he could still be consulted but as said no veto or anything just an opinion on how he feels any possible signing would.be in his system and set up

No, After Antony he finished it for me

I’m guessing this is just lazy journalism. Ex Ajax player who worked under EtH but not really the type of CB we need and will cost too much.
