Euro 24 MD1 review MD2 preview

A goal laden start to this summers tournament, and some cracking goals too.

Germany kicked off the competition as hosts and looked very good. Their great young hopes, Musiala and Wirtz, both looked very good and netted. Scotland suffered a disappointing night, but will hope for better in their remaining games. Switzerland won the other Group A game, 3-1 over Hungary.
Germany play Hungary this afternoon, while Scotland and Switzerland meet in the 8pm.

Group B was seen as the Group of DEATH, and when Albania scored within 20 seconds it looked like it may live up to its name. However, Italy came back strong and were 2-1 up within 16 minutes - and thats how it finished. Spain looked good as they cruised past Croatia 3-0.
Croatia vs Albania at 2pm now looks a must win, while Spain and Italy meet tomorrow at 8pm in one of the group stages glamour ties.

England took control of Group C with a understated 1-0 win over Serbia. A draw in the Slovenia-Denmark game leaves everything to play for tomorrow, with Slovenia vs Serbia at 2pm and England vs Denmark at 5pm.

The biggest story of Group D was the broken nose of Mbappe in a 1-0 win for France over Austria. In the other game Netherlands beat Poland 2-1. France and Netherlands play each other on Friday, 8pm, while Poland and Austria meet at 5 on the same day.

Shocks were hard to come by, but Group E arguably had two. Romania had an entry for goal of the tournament in their 3-0 win over Ukraine, but it was Slovakia beating Belgium 1-0 that really went against the odds.
Romania have the chance to qualify on Saturday against Belgium, while Slovakia can progress with a win over Ukraine on Friday.

Turkey and Georgia played out one of the best games of MD1, with a couple of cracking Turkish goals helping them to win 3-1. Portugal left it late to record a 2-1 comeback win over Czechia, the only game of MD1 to need a injury time winner.
The two winners meet on Saturday, while Czechia and Georgia need a win on the same day.


34 goals scored in MD1. Only 1 drawn game. Some hard to beat contenders for the goal of the tournament already.

MD2 will see some teams confirm their place in the knockout and leave some teams very perilous (I believe it is possible for a team to be eliminated but it takes some maths).
