seems like very lazy scouting to me:

Big name signing ✅
Good FIFA 24 rating ✅

He was bought for £57m 2 years ago on a 5 year deal so you'd expect Bayern to want minimum £35m to avoid a book value loss, and if you got him for that money he'd be a good signing but just don't think he's top level or will now evolve into top level. He's young-ish but doesnt seem like one for the future as he's kinda already peaked.

There can't be many players that two top clubs have decided to let go, and they go on to be a success at a third.

I don't watch Bundesliga so don't know how he's done but at the most simplistic level it surely must be a concern that Juve and Bayern were/are happy to see him leave?

I’m not the biggest fan, but I don’t think this is quite the case. He’s been the main cb at both clubs, but it’s my understanding it’s been a financial decision for both clubs more than anything.

Juve because they were in the shiiiit financially, he was on massive wages and Bayern offered a huge fee.

With Bayern it looks like they’re having a big squad revamp, reducing their upper limit of their wage bill, and he’s a saleable asset on huge wages that they’re willing to sacrifice to achieve that.

You might be right and he's just the unlucky player who has been sacrificed twice by teams need to cut costs.

Thanks to the wonder of chatgpt that certainly makes sense for Juve, he was the 2nd highest earner there in his last season (albeit way behind CR).

Bayern though, 9th highest earner. So the willingness to sacrifice him is perhaps less obvious financially.

Not when you consider that Bayern are trying to get rid of the majority of those high earners/have them reduce their wages on new terms.

And given he’s supposedly earning around €300k per week, and the difference between him and the second highest earner is about €5m, with Kane being the significant higher earner in the squad, I don’t think it really disputes the point about the financial decision due to framing it the point that way.

Then with his transfer fee he’s costing them about €30m a year on the books.

I guess we'll see by the end of the transfer window whether he's the only one Bayern move on or whether there are others.

The guy is clearly a talent, he looked fantastic in that Ajax team and his ability has persuaded two big teams to invest big money in him.

But it's not a great look being the sacrificed player twice. He's either really unlucky or it's something else.

No. Decent PL CB, nothing more.

I think it’s a case of him just not being worth the money that the clubs have invested in him. He’s been a very costly investment for both clubs.

Looking at Bayern’s highest earners, they’ll struggle to get much money for them due to their wages, injury problems and age.

Probably why there’s a chance Kimmich might leave as well, despite being such an important player for them over the years. They’ve facked themselves over a bit in recent years with their squad building, looks like that’s why they’re trying to have a clear out over the next couple of years.

I don’t think he’s that grate, by the way. Just making the point that there are some clear financial reasons for why Juve and now Bayern have looked to sell.
