Kane’s last tournament..

..as a guaranteed starter? He’s been one of Englands best players over the last 6/7 years and the first name on the team sheet but he’s been average at best for them in the euros and by the time of the World Cup he’ll be two years older. Is this his last tournament as a starter? And should the next manager if Southgate goes try and integrate someone like Palmer up top or in a more sophisticated formation?

True enough

It`s probably a combination of being knackered after a long season and a lack of service from the over rated attacking players that Safegate continues to pick.

He`s still the best English CF, and by a distance, it`s not his fault the likes of Saka, Foden, Bellingham etc can`t pick a pass.

Failing to see why Palmer would start up top...currently he should be starting in front of Foden though

Kane strengths don’t suit him as a striker in this system, he works best with runners either side of him instead of having to be the main guy to make the runs himself. He also looks like he isn’t 100% from his back injury.

However Toney and Watkins haven’t looked any better, the issues are way more systemic than individual

All of this. This system does not suit Kane or those behind him imo, coupled with him not being able to run in behind it’s a major reason as to why we are not getting the opposition to face their own goal enough.

Must admit the whole squad doesn’t look to be particularly fit, but that looks a bit better with each game.

I still don’t think we simply run enough full stop, certainly without the ball.

No one looks as sharp as we expect them to in that England side. If we weren't so lethargic in our build up play and created more, he'd be having a better tournament. Generally he only drops deep when the others aren't cutting it (trust me, I'm a Spurs fan, I know). When he was with us, him dropping in was a signal to the likes of Son and Dele to run in behind. No one is doing that with England. I admit there have been times when the ball has flashed across the box and he's not been there but let's be honest, you stop making runs when the ball rarely comes. He's had two wingers up until now who prefer to cut inside and take shots of their own rather than whip an early ball in with no overlapping full backs to speak of.

I don't think Kane's lack of form is down to him. It's the structure of the team. You don't score nearly 50 goals in a season and be anything other than in your prime.

Tbh I watch all the quarter finals and we don’t look that far off the pace performance wise to those still in the competition.

Tend to agree with this. The Denmark game was abysmal, and so were parts of the Slovakia game, but we've not been significantly worse than the likes of France and Portugal over the competition as a whole.

I would agree too, only really Germany & Spain out of the top sides have shown anything.

Denmark and Switzerland have played well as a team too.
