Luke Shaw

Thought for the most part he was excellent today. Shows why managers have such faith in him despite the fact he’s a walking injury. And why it’s such a paradox persisting with him going forwards for United. When fit he’s one of the best in the world but we just know there’s going to be at least 50% of the season played without him unless a fitness miracle happens.

Buying a new LB probably isn’t the priority at all but what future does Shaw have with us? When does his contract end?

He absolutely faded in the second half, probably due to lack of match fitness. He had Yamal in his pocket in the first half though

Yeah, the seasoned pro versus the 17yo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He didn’t have yamal in his pocket at all. Got roasted by him a few times, best he could do was block him til he got support, which against Yamal isn’t easy

Defensively sound in the first half but didnt offer much going forward. Faded a lot in the second half and Yamal got the wrong side of him a few times. But totally understandable considering how little he’s played.

Southgate really should have planned for a better plan B than Trippier this tournament. One of many issues Southgate failed to resolve going into the tournament.

True, but had he (or another actual left back) played in the earlier rounds, maybe England don’t have to play consecutive 120 minute games, and are less knackered by the time they get to the final?

Imagine if we’d won our group after two games, and rested the first team like Spain were able to…

Southgate got the squad all wrong. Let’s face it, Shaw should probably never have even been on the plane.

He should have been in the plane, but it was criminal that Southgate didn't take another LB with him.

What other options do England have at Left Back and any idea why they may not have been taken?

Ben Chilwell is the obvious one for me. No idea why he wasn't taken. We would have given us some balance down that left side.

Southgate's main mistake this tournament was trying to get all his best/preferred players in the team. In doing so he sacrificed the balance of the team.

Chillwells been crap this season tbf.
I would have taken Lewis Hall. Played similar amount of prem football as Mainoo and could have started the first game to try it out. Would have given us so much balance and looks a real player.

Chillwell has played 70 times in 4 seasons.
Why so little?

if you managed to google that to find it out surely you'd know why? The guys a cripple. Under tuchel he was one of the best in europe but now they've taken their toll. Even when back from injury hes been woeful.
