Sander Berge

We've been linked with Sander Berge this morning.

Could that be a shrewd purchase perhaps? Don't know too much about him but would he suit us more than McT (if he does leave?) as he can play a bit deeper more effectively?

For those that do know of his game can you explain what he could bring?

Being saddled with McTominay seems an appropriate wording when you consider he looks like this playing football:

To be fair Dazza's stance on McT is softening. Only yesterday he called him a Championship standard player.

Irritating that PSG bought Joao Neves for such a low fee. On that basis, not giving them more money for Ugarte than they spent upgrading on him should be a point of principle.

Is it such a low fee, though? Or have clubs finally caught on, and Benfica lost their bargaining power, that their players just aren’t worth the extortionate fees they’ve charged?

Between Nunex, Felix and Enxo Fernandez they’ve committed levels of fraud that would make the Tories blush.

Yeah, it isn’t peanuts.

€60m, plus €10m in add-ons, plus Sanches on loan (which is probably somewhere between €5m and €10m market value). And you can bet there’s a sell-on clause.

I love the kid. But that’s a lot committed for a 19 year-old with one season under his belt.

I have a hunch that we’ll end up getting Ugarte, and for somewhere in the region of €40m-€50m.

PSG generally aren’t as ridiculous spenders as one might think on transfer fees. They had a blowout last year, but needed to do a lot of rebuilding and brought a huge amount of cash in.

Generally when they shell out, they’re recouping at the same time; and if Ugarte isn’t going to play, they’ll move him on to cash in.

The idea of Berge in our midfield is growing on me the more I watch clips / and read stats around his defensive, pressing, counter pressing and passing attributes. Not the quickest but nor was Michael Carrick and what a career he had at Utd. Berge is nowhere near Carrick's standards but he certainly does give me Carrick vibes ! Not a big name, not getting fans salivating but he will be a project signing to enable us to play a certain way, next summer and ones after will help us attract bigger names when we finally have a bigger budget.
