So What Have We Learned From Pre Season?

We have learned that 0 time has gone into fixing the structural issues at defensive set pieces.

We havent put out a a full defence most pre-season and when we did (2nd half vs Bayern with Cuti & VDV) we kept a clean sheet.

How can you judge what work has been done when we've had CB combinations including Emerson Davies Gray Dragusin

We have learnt that Ange will be gone by November sadly. Friendlies are friendlies but there is no change in the way we play really and his weird stubborn behaviour has not changed.

As an example set pieces and the use of Emerson Royal. Did not want him but plays him everywhere.

This is Ardilles all over again we know it will not end well but we all desperetely want it to work obviously.

So when Udogie was unfit, Romero VDV and Dragusin delayed returns after internationals comps, WTF was Post meant to play in defence. We literally had Porro, Davies Emerson Spence and Phillips !

Change the way we play? In what sense? Did you want to see us park the bus and go full Conte pre-season?

I would agree that this is a watershed season for Ange, we have to improve and much of that comes down to more consistency both defensively and offensively. I feel like the attack has been largely addressed and that actually the addition of Solanke will help with our press and our defending set pieces, and this will benefit us defensively overall.

A bit more cover at LB/LCB would be ideal and another star signing would really give as a strong squad.

The argument does not wash because we could of used an orthodox left back in Regullon. Both are unwanted. That is the stubborness from Ange.

Everyone gives him the "excuse" of he played last season with full backs as centre backs. Ben Davies in 2014 was playing centre back for Swansea City and plays there for Wales he is an orthodox centre back, Eric Dier the current starting CB of Bayern Munich and Alfie Dorrington were on the bench. It was Stubborn anges choice to put Royal there.

We play like a big side in a small league hence it previously working for Ange. The sides Celtic play against havent got the quality to counter therefore rarely get punished.

Genuinely if anyone is old enough to remember it is like watching an Ardilles game. I can already see Leicester look awful during pre season but i can see Fatawu constantly exploting the same defensive issues next monday.

One person's stubbornness is another person's commitment to their beliefs.

You could call the likes of Pep or Klopp stubborn.

We now see Spence back in the team after seemingly gaining favour. That shows a manager who will judge on character and quality not just on his personal likes and dislikes.

We'll see how things start off vs LCFC. I personally think we will be very fast out of the traps and they will not be able to live with us.

If we don’t address this left side problem… ie lack of decent cover for VDV/ Udogie… then we will concede lots of goals still… the amount last season was an absolute disgrace…if Ange hasn’t learnt from that, then there’s no way he will last the season.

To play in his system, you have to have quality & pace.., VDV & Udogie have both in abundant… Davies does not… & it will cost us, if he plays…

We also need someone of top quality to play as a right forward… Kulu inconsistent… Johnson just does not have enough quality…

I expect either Chiesa, Jonathan David or Eze to come in…we have a major weakness in this area!!

Ps… I remember the Ardiles era… 5 great forwards…& no midfielders… after a great early start… teams simply sat deep.,,.&hit us on the break… Ardiles was gone by November!

We havent been linked with many on that side.

If we do go out of the window with no cover, even just a loan deal, then this will be a problem.

That said, we still have Reggie on our books and maybe him going (Barca apparently keen) will see someone come in to replace him in the squad.

Also Phillips remains at the club, may be he's impressed enough pre-season to be cover at LCB? or again, may be we are looking to get him loaned out before getting someone in.
