They call me the apologist
And now that I'm at peak
You know at first it really hurt
We joke about these things
I've skirted all my differences
But now I'm facing up
I wanted to apologize
For everything I was, so
I'm sorry, so sorry
So sorry, so sorry
So sorry, so sorry
So sorry

Apologist : a person who tries to explain and defend something/somebody, especially a political system or religious ideas
Apology : a word or statement saying sorry for something that has been done wrong or that causes a problem
Excuse : a reason, either true or invented, that you give to explain or defend your behaviour
Three words, three very different meanings. Why are they being used to describe similar things on this board?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of people need to apologist for their actions on this board.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Listen son, you need to excuse to me next time you are rude to me. Hurts my feelings
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My humblest apologists

Because to use the word reason takes more explanation

Lmao. Where an apologist thinks they are being accused of trying to apologize.
Whatever it is you guys are trying to accuse SE85 of, you can easily understand it because I do. There's a limitation in accepting there are reasons for actions and inactions. Truth of the matter is in situations like this you have decided which is better for your wellbeing. It's clear "nuance" has become the position to take when you don't want to become an extremist. But extremism has it's uses in very rare occasions (like if you want to be a successful football team)
I sympathise with SE85 because accepting failure without punishment is very problematic for some people. Especially if the failures still exist right in your face reminding you of it. 😂. I don't need nuance for it just to make it clear that it is understood the failure has gone unpunished only by unimaginable grace.
Btw SE85, are you still a Rashford apologist?

Well, no, in this case something is nuanced when there are a number of complexities to consider which don't fall into black and white categories. I can have the opinion that ETH was extremely lucky to keep his job last year, whilst also acknowledging that there are reasons INEOS might have chosen to stick with the manager.
If your response to the above is that anyone who doesn't spend all day bleating about how the manager needs to be sacked

...If your response to the above is that anyone who doesn't spend all day bleating about how the manager needs to be sacked must see ETH as their "hero", I will quite happily call you an idiot.

Complexities makes you guys warm and fuzzy I guess.
Multiple turths can exist, ergo "complexities". One of those ETH has been woeful. Possibly the worst manager since Fergie. He has the numbers to back it. If complexities make you justify his stay fine. Then it can be said every single manager before him should have been kept till we got rid of Glazers managerial style.
I've accepted his stay and still hope for the best, but to remember key versions of said complexities does not make me an idiot. Not sure that's how complexities work.

G/A ratios, Actual performance, levels of record breaking losses with not an ounce of improvement. No improvement in the performance of any player all covered up by cup wins. Not sure Moyes was even this bad and he was sacked in his first season.
Theres nothing to try.

-----------------------
Complexities are not something we make up. It's what the situation is. As far as opinions go, the opinion that United's problems last season (and before) had more to do than solely the manager is about as close to an objective truth as you can get. If you want to deny that, fine, but you should know it's really, really dumb.
But here's the bit you cant seem to wrap your head around: It is possible for someone to discuss these other factors whilst simultaneously not having much faith in the manager. And, pay attention because this is where it gets super tricky, some people may even choose to defend the manager from some criticisms they see as unwarranted, whilst also thinking he is NOT the best man for the job on the whole.
This is where the frustration lies, I guess. SE85 the other day accused other members of the board of trying to bully him, which I genuinely wouldn't want to be the case. But he (and you, apparently) seems to have taken it upon himself to decide that we are not allowed to discuss any of these things, lest we be accused by him (and you) of having some kind of irrational love for ETH. And no matter how many times this point is put to him by members of this forum, he will ignore it and say the exact same thing multiple times a day. It is incredibly tiresome, and quite frankly fcking childish.
