What if I told you…

That Rashford has created more big chances than any player in the PL this season? Has he been great? Nope but he’s contributing something.

This leads on to possibly one of the more bizarre decisions of Ten Hag. Relying on younger, less polished strikers to win games. It’s unfair on players like Zirkzee as being thrown into games like yesterday and missing chances facks up their confidence which then gets them off to a bad start and it’s hard to recover when the pressure starts to build when a huge club is losing week after week and goals aren’t being scored.

These chances that Rashford is making would be finished by a more seasoned striker and the pressure on the club, the manager and the players is lessened.

Again, that brings me back to my article from a couple of weeks ago about our slow decline and the acceptance by supporters of it. Back in 2017 we had Lukaku and were scoring goals and even that was seen as not good enough by supporters. We’re miles worse now than then. And im sure there are more floors to plummet through.

Anyway, a Toney or a Kane or an Isak scores the chances we made yesterday but instead the club decided to spend over £100 million on two strikers who are miles from the finished product and that will cost us this season

Toney in your side yesterday and against Brighton I think you'd have at least 7 points from your opening 3 games as would Chelsea and Spurs if they'd signed him for the £50 million Brentford were apparantly demanding from a EPL club for a proven player, okay in the final year of his contract, but he definitely knows where the back of the
net is.

I'm amazed even with all the financial hoops clubs now have to jump through, Toney was ignored as the available stand our goal poaching and goal making machine that he is for a fee that what is in today's
market for an established striker not that expensive but that is what has happened and I suspect Man U Chelsea and Spurs come the end of the season will regret that decision.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd argue the same about if we had had Hojlund in the team rather than Toney. Unfortunately he is injured.

Where are you getting your info from?

Officail Prem site says Rashford 3 big chances created Mbeumo, Palmer and Salah all have 4.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Probably the same place that shows that Toney is a proven PL scorer. With a goal every 293 minutes in open play and a conversion rate of a goal every 8.88 shots.

All of which is inferior to Hojlund. Who isn't a natural finisher and can't be relied upon...

Anyone who watches us play knows that our main problem when it comes to scoring goals is actually creating chances from good positions. It drives me crazy how many times we get into good positions only to waste the opening. We were guilty of it many times yesterday. The difference being that Liverpool made us pay when we sacrificed possession cheaply.

Are we really judging Zirkzee after 3 games? After he came on and finished well for his goal against Fulham, we were suddenly going, 'great buy', now he's missed a couple of easy ones, it's 'terrible buy'.

Let's at least allow him a run of games to show what he can do etc.

Rashford is not our only problem, we have so many, but it's easier to make a judgment on him as he has been here so long, and without going round in circles, for me he's simply not been good enough. This is purely a footballing judgment, nothing else.

Let's also not judge how the transfer window has been based on yesterday - players need time to settle in etc.

But ETH needs to get the ball rolling quickly. It's crazy to suggest he should be sacked right now, but for his sake, he needs a great deal improvement over the next half dozen games to show he is making some process. He's into his third year, he's not going to get a lot of slack from fans, which isn't surprising, and personally I feel it's simply a case of when he goes, not if.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought Zirkzee looked okay yesterday tbh, again, he had the chances to score a hat trick, if he keeps getting chances he will get goals.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He should have scored yesterday, but it is too early to judge him. Remember how bad Drogba looked when he joined Chelsea?

Not judging Zikzee, but i did think he looked a bit cumbersome on the whole - not really what I had expected based on what I'd heard/read about him. Didn't look as technically accomplished as I thought he was. Hopefully it's just a bit of start of season rustiness.

On the positive side of things- he's at least getting himself in the right positions which is a start (and something Hojlund struggled with last season). I thought his movement for that sliding chance he put wide was excellent. If he keeps that up the goals will (hopefully) follow.

Rashford did pretty well to carve out that chance that Fellainzee slid wide. We could have had a couple of goals yesterday, to be fair, however bad we were generally.

Eh?

You're not really replying to what I'm saying but nevermind.

How are the players we bought famous targets?

Hoilund, Zirkzee, Antony, Onana?

Who else was going for these players?

We overpaid on all 4 of them, when no other top club really wanted them.

*********************************

For the most part all of them where brought with an expectation that they will improve. Only Onana is the odd one in there and of course Antony was an obvious error that should be a 25 million signing. For Zirkzee and Hoilund have a lot of room for growth. Zoro has room for growth, Our youngsters have room for growth.

What we have been losing regularly is buying players who nobody want of which Mason Mount is the best example. When even Chelsea is willing to sell their childhood boy turn superstar (not because he famously assaulted his wife like Greenwood) then you should be worried. If I was a big club, I do not want to sign Rashford now if United wants to sell him, We should not be buying Casemiro when Madrid wanted to sell him, tbh Varane too. It always feels like a trap.

We wasted a lot of good openings with poor passes/wrong choices. Liverpool played better than us, but the main difference was that they exploited our mistakes. We failed to create many chances from good positions and wasted the chances that we did create.

I'm going to say this about Zirkzee, he gets chances, runs into positions, moreso than all our strikers and at the very least is a good distraction to defenders. I believe he will serve a purpose.

The problem we have is in coaching. Not the players. I do believe Bruno and Rashford are too inconsistent and we really should be replacing them.

But the problem is coaching and tactics. We were getting overrun in midfield and the manage did fk all about it.
