This summer we finally saw the exit of Lo Celso, a talented player who never really made a place his own in the team. Im sure if you looked at his playing history with Spurs you would see spells of 2-10 starts followed by injury, then the fight to get back into a settled team starts again, he'd get a chance and then get injured. Even his loans saw him miss games injured.
One that didnt work and one we take a massive hit on. £5m to Real Betis.
They were clearly not prepared to pay any more but we have got creative to extract more value out of that deal.
Reports have it that we have a priority on their 22 year old, Johnny Cardoso. An energetic DM with Brazilian heritage and a US passport. He only joined in January and had an impressive half season according to reports.
Our priority gives us the chance to buy him for a fixed fee, reportedly 25-30m euros, from next summer and lasting for a further year.
This really is a new and interesting approach to a deal. Where Betis don't want to lose the player now, or loan him with an obligation to buy, where they can possibly keep the player if we don't take the option.
SO they may keep him, or possibly received up to 30m for him, a position which their chairman said they are very happy with.
As for Spurs, if this guy has a strong season it may be a bit of a no brainer to take the option and at 30m its not a huge fee. We can scout him all season long knowing if he's good enough then he's ours, no need for a bidding war etc. We can also wait until the 2026 windows too.
Reports also have it that part of this priority will see us take a share of any sale fee if others buy him. I presume this will be a share above the 25/30m, but not sure. Not seen too much detail on this element but again, very creative approach that could earn us some millions to off-set the low fee we got for GLC.
We also have a share of any further GLC sale.
It's quite a different sort of approach we have taken here and one that could work really well, where we stand to benefit one way or another should Cardoso develop into a quality player.
I know nothing about the player but will be looking out for him. Betis in the ECL this season.
