Losing patience

I like Ange and the football is easy on the eye, but the results are below average. This guy has us back to what we were in the late 90’s early 00’s - easy on the eye but soft as shiete, absolute mentality midgets.

He has spent loads, it is undoubtedly his team and what do we get - a team that finds it impossible to effectively defend a set piece. A side that misses chance after chance.

He is on borrowed time now, sure we dominated the first 3 games, but we only won 1 of them. Next up in the league is a physical Brentford side who will cherish corners against us. Then we’re away to United and Brighton - I honestly believe he needs 4 points minimum to keep his job beyond that and even then 8 points from 7 games doesn’t get close to cutting it.

There are cup games - the only silver lining being that he surely realises he is in desperate need of a win and cannot afford to rest players at Coventry, we might actually go strong. The Europa is another chance for salvation also.

But we all know Levy well enough to know that he will be getting an itchy trigger finger now - he wants CL football and we look a million miles off it at the moment.

do all the best teams not play a high line most of the time?

i would agree in a big game you should dial it down a bit

we do need more steel and leadership in the spine of the team.

so predictable theyd score from a corner though. we conceded most goals from them and they scored most goals from them last season i think , its frustrating cause until sunday we did look a bit better at defending them

he aint gonna drop Romero

dont rate him defensively but we need to find a way to make all the defenders better as a unit

Agreed, but that probably means dropping the high line - which he won’t.

Also means carrying out training to defend corners - which he seems bizarrely reluctant to do.

We have an aerial problem at the back - VDV, Udogie and Porro are poor in the air. Dravidian is very good but doesn’t start games. Vic is a disaster aerially, his one real weakness.

Dropping the high line????

You are just showing you do not understand football. The high line underpins everything that a pressing team does.

You are advocating we play like we did under Conte. drop deep, concede possession, look to counter. And what will that resut in? more pressure, more balls into the box...and what have we been poor at this season? defending balls into the box.

We have moved away from that and the issues we have had this season have not been about the high line. Did the high line cost us vs Arsenal?

What we have needs refining. Brighton play a high line...is Dunk a speed merchant? Is Stones a speedster for City.

You think the whole system needs changing because 1 CB isnt lightning fast.

It’s fine playing a high line against most the bottom 10 - Everton for instance as 9/10 you will outscore those sides, although we didn’t take our chances at Leicester.

But we do it every game against every opponent - zero variation. The better sides know how to play against it effectively. Brighton, know how to deal with it, Villa and West Ham both got the better of us last season at home because of it. Even Wolves have an absolute field day with it - at least they did when Jota was around. Ange has to have a plan B.

The Europa will be a great example of this - we will dominate Qarabag, Elfsborg, Rangers, AZ, Ferencvaros with that high line. But Roma and Galatasaray will cause us major issues as they won’t mind sitting back and countering and they have quality up top - especially now Gala have landed Osimhen. Hoffenheim - last game, will depend on position of each side in the group, both could easily just rotate and it end up a dull 0-0.

I was at the Everton game, and they had a 5 minute spell at the end of the first half where we were 2-0 up - where they had 4/5 corners in a late flurry and we looked very uncomfortable and struggled to clear the ball.

They also had another chance from a cross where Harrison/Garner had a great chance at the back post. Put adequate finishers in that Everton side and we would have conceded a couple that day - that defence still looks uncomfortable with the ball in the air

You are again showing an inability to read and comprehend Devon - no surprise.

My point is that our defence looks uncomfortable with the high line and anything that comes into the box aerially.

We do not necessarily need to change it - but changing personnel to suit it should definitely be a consideration.

Of course I’m wrong though and we’re brilliant at the moment and have more than 4 points from 4 games - please teach me again oh great Devon one

When you have a quivering wreck of a goalie, is it any wonder Spurs concede so many from set pieces or high balls into the box. Definitely Vicario needs upgrading sooner rather than later. He's worse than the final days of Lloris.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s his only real weakness, he is one of the best shot stoppers I have seen, unbelievable reflexes.

We cannot continue with him and that defence though - it’s aerially abysmal. VDV lacks one thing defensively - aerial ability. Udogie and Porro are midgets at Prem level. Dragusin is formidable in the air but is picking splinters out his Aris most games so no use.

Something has to give there - we either replace Vic, or we change that back 4 for one that is more convincing aerially.

I would like to see Ange try a 3-4-3 with these players and have all of Dragusin, Romero and VDV starting - that would help defensively. Play Udogie and Porro as wing backs rather than inverting and contesting all the time. Single pivot in Midfield - Biss is marginally more reliable than Bentancur and have Maddison starting for now. Then the ever rotating 3 forwards combination.

From corners, Solanke, Romero, VDV give us great height - so does Bentancur, so maybe he should start over Biss.

We all would, only one man disagrees

It's a combination of not really having any good creators, and not having any good finishers. Your attack is just full of shiiiit players. Which is shocking, considering the amounts you've spent.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No it's not. It's a case of having a team playing a very different way to before with new players where it takes time to build relationships and understanding.

Arsenal barely scored under arteta for 2 seasons and now do so for fun with largely the same players, learning developing getting better.

It's far too early to point the finger at any one reason why we didn't score against Arsenal's parked defence

===

Really? Solanke is the only attacker you have who has the excuse of needing time to get to grips with anges system.

Son - past his best
Johnson - crap
Kulusevski - ok
Richarlison - ok but always injured
Madison - good on his day, but also not good enough to carry your attack consistently
Camembert cheese room - looks a good dribbler tbf

Still think you can challenge for that 4th spot but won't be surprised if you don't make it

Need to use Dragusin, against physical, height imposing sides…

Need to tell the strikers to actually shoot, when getting a chance to shoot…

This will help enormously…

We do shoot - 15 shots at Leicester, 16 at home to Everton, 20 away to Newcastle and 15 at home to Arsenal - I would be surprised if any side in the league is within 10 of that.

Our problem is that our shooting is gash
