Dominic Solanke

will he ever score ?

posted 11 hours, 4 minutes ago

I was up for Toney, but when you see how the transfer window turned out for him you can perhaps see that the problem was never his ability or even the price, but him.

That makes him way more risky than the likes of Solanke and even Richi, as they have great work ethics and commitment.

Solanke is a striker, reliant on service.

That is largely what is missing. He's had probably half a dozen half chances in his couple of games. Hasnt missed any sitter and we still seem to have a real reluctance to put the ball in the box.

There's way more to come from him IMO and you know what strikers are like, 1 goal and suddenly their whole game lifts 10%

Flip side is these droughts can start to become "a thing" so he does need a goal asap.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Werner providing nothing is a problem, BJ I like but he looks a bit rattled. Son isn’t really an assist king.

Kulu and Solanke have played 1 game together so far and Maddison 2 games - it’s insane to judge at this point.

We need a left sided attacker come Jan/summer though.

There's a dearth of top quality strikers around at the moment for us to get. Who are the ones who are both young enough and playing in one of the top leagues with a decent scoring rate (1 in 2 or above)?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
None that are proven and obtainable - Mbappe wasn’t going to move to us.

The only one we could have taken a punt on was Jonathan David, but is he good enough, I had and still do have serious doubts.

Gimenez - we weren’t paying top dollar for a striker from the Dutch leagues again

The only other one we were linked with was Gyokeres - who Sporting wanted £80m for after they bought him from Cov the previous summer for £20m - levy would have been mad to sanction that - 1 season in a semi decent league
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I forgot about David. He's been scoring a lot in the 4th/5th best league in Europe and has the numbers at international level to back up his consistency. Might not transfer as well to the PL (could end up another Lacazette) but that is still better than Werner. Also a good age.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Still a huge risk, no other club in Europe has tried to sign him despite the numbers. The scouts are clearly seeing flaws otherwise someone would have picked up by now.

Dortmund started England U21 player Gittens in the CL the other night and he scored twice - there are players out there but our fans go mental when we sign youth - we want proven here and now players
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is he really any more of a risk than who we have signed already? Solanke, Richarlison, BJ...all for big money each. I don't think so.

Can't read much into an U21 English player starting a season well at Dortmund. Hardly anything to go on there. At least with David he has a record of scoring many goals going back 3 years now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m just suspect that we would have a free run at him and his cost is circa £35m - I mean clubs all over pay that for strikers
----------------------------------------------------------------------

according to some sources, Arsenal looked at Toney and were put off by his £18m wage demands. That's north of £300k a week.

Now the lad ait worth anything like that, and those sorts of demands also speak of his motivation. His last big contract so he no doubt wants a pay out but beyond that does he really care? Aparently £36k a week a Brentford, surely you'd take £150k a week to join Arsenal or similar. Instead he's taken the money and probably written off his international career too - WC in 2 years!

He could have easily been our next NDombele.

He is a bet away from a lifetime ban.

In addition - 4 goals in 17 games for Brentford when he did come back - difficult to trust that and plenty of sides passed on him this summer - I think rightly so

Werner is poor, but bloody hell he's found new levels of poor so far this season.

My team for last night was Odobert / Solanke / Johnson.

All needed time and a bit of confidence. Werner should not have started and contributed zero.

We have that South Korean coming in Jan. Not sure how ready he is. Odobert can play from the left.

Also Moore is coming through.

In an ideal world we score a couple last night and Moore gets his chance.

But i do think its way too soon to be writing some players off. There's a long way to January and we can turn this around.

Hyuk is 18 and Moore is 16

Son is at the end and Werner is dog schitt.

I think we need mid 20’s proven whilst Hyuk and Moore find their feet

There’s not many top strikers around… that are obtainable…

It takes any new striker, a while to settle in…

We’re not whipping in enough crosses for Solanke… & playing to his strengths

He’s good in the air… & has good feet.., it’s only a matter of time, before he scores

He’s a better prospect than Toney.., who has proved that he’s a complete tool… & only in it for the money!

No service again last night due to the poor tactics.

Solanke will be ok a very streaky player once he scores one will score more.

posted 3 hours, 34 minutes ago

Hoping when Richy returns it will push Solanke on. Nothing like abit of competition to get the best out of someone. When he has Richy sitting on the bench it has to push him on and vice versa.

Get fit Richy. At least Lankshear is back in training now as well.
