I have already posted 3 or 4 articles here about how ridiculous it is that this geezer is considered "the best ref in the country".
It's an absolute joke.
I've never watched a match officiated by Michael Oliver that did not end in referee controversy or come away with the feeling that he influenced the result of the match one way or the other.
I have said it many times before and I'll say it again , he is an absolutely awful ref and for me he's one of the worst we have in England.
This laughable idea that he's the best ref in the country just shows me how terrible the officiating standards are for the premier league.
I couldn't give a crap about Arsenal and City or their fans but I know this is not the last time "the best referee in England" will ruin another big match because he wants to get himself in the headlines.
I've always maintained that for me Paul Tierney is actually the best ref in the country. He's the only one who hardly gets noticed during a match and just does his job in an effective manner.
Michael Oliver

As far as I can gather, it was the Saudi version of the Community Shield but they held it in Abu Dhabi.

That was the other game wasn’t it? He refereed one in the ADNOT league too.

I'll take your word for it, it was a struggle (for me) finding any info on the game.

It’s irrelevant anyway as Mansour hasn’t got anything to do with the league governance or ownership, he has a team in the league itself.

Depends if you believe that the UAE isn’t corrupt, I guess.

Doesnt matter who it was, i dont think there should ever be that conflict of interest, esp now with multiple state owned clubs in the prem. Absolutely ridiculous by Webb and the PGMOL to sanction it even saying itd be good for them tryna pass it off as a good idea.
They all work together doing similar stuff over there with similar goals we've no idea what they get up to. So why risk it? Esp an area of the world known to have bribed officials in football.

You've got to be really paranoid if you think there's a conflict of interest.
It was a prestige game so they wanted referees on the FIFA list to officiate.
Oliver wouldn't have been paid by anyone in the UAE or Saudi Arabia directly anyway as it was part of a PGMOL scheme.

You’d need to believe a lot more than that in this particular instance.

They can’t not sanction it, not for those reasons at least.

The daft thing is surely there’s as much conflict of interest with Arsenal if people think the UAE is entirely corrupt!
