Southgate to United

I was reading the other day that Southgate isn't planning on returning to coaching in the next year. The wording he used though was interesting. I've taken the quotes from this article - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/czegxjp4381o

"I won't coach in the next year for sure, I'm certain of that" - he specifies coaching here.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Southgate says he will not coach another international team and will be careful before returning to the club environment. He previously managed Middlesbrough from 2006 to 2009.

"Clubs can only be successful if everything is aligned, right the way through the club," he said.

"I also know that maybe the smarter people sit in the boardrooms and the coaches are a little bit more dispensable than you think when you are there.

"As a coach you think you're the most important person. I sat in every boardroom in our country for eight years and realised you're only a small piece in this whole thing."

I wonder if this could open up the door for him to come to United? I don't think many on here would want him as manager but it would be interesting, IMO, if he were to join the club in some General Manager capacity and work above a Head Coach. Whatever you though of him tactically for England (I thought he did a pretty decent job overall at that to be honest) he has been credited with creating a better culture in the England set up overall.

Would you think this is a possibility and, if so, would you be able to get on board with it as long as we get a good head coach?

I honestly think he would do a decent job at United. He would change the culture at the club which is clearly your biggest issue, and also has a history of successfully developing youngsters. Not saying he would win you major trophies or anything, but he could at least turn things around in the short term before passing the job on to a manager capable of winning major trophies.

To be fair, we said the same about Ole.

Ineos have come out and said the target is to win the league by 2028 so you’d think the next guy has to be ‘the guy’ rather than someone to build for another.

Southgate should become the head of the FA.

No I didn’t, it’s where he will inevitably end up. Deservedly so.

Sounds like he's making excuses already

He's another Solskjaer. I think he would do alright as well, but he wouldn't affect any cultural change at United at all. If Rangnick & ten Hag are wannabe heart surgeons, Southgate would be like a painkiller. United will still be dying, nothing's getting fixed, they just won't feel it as badly. He'll be the soft touch that he is, stroke the right ego's, and those moments players United have (which is a lot of them) will have more good days than they're having atm.

What United need to change their culture is Clearlake lol. Owners who just rip everything up & built again. New culture might be better or worse, but it'll certainly be different
