Saliba sending off

Identical incident to Saliba’s sending off in the Liverpool v Chelsea game today , exactly the same place on the pitch and the same type of coming together but only a yellow. No VAR intervention on this one , where is the consistency

Theyre both last man and by 5 yards or so both probably end in a 1v1 with the keeper if not fouled. Last man is a thing they dont red card accidental stuff now or double jeopardy such as a pen. But otherwise deliverate fouls denying goal scoring opps are str8 red cards?

There’s no mention of ‘last man’ in the law or the guidance, as I understand it. It’s a misleading phrase.

It probably falls under the the location and number of defenders bit.

Denying a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity
There are two sending-off offences that deal with denying an opponent an
obvious opportunity to score a goal. It is not necessary for the offence to occur
inside the penalty area.
If the referee applies advantage during an obvious goalscoring opportunity and
a goal is scored directly, despite the opponent’s handling the ball or fouling an
opponent, the player cannot be sent off but he may still be cautioned.
Referees should consider the following circumstances when deciding whether
to send off a player for denying a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity:
• the distance between the offence and the goal
• the likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
• the direction of the play
• the location and number of defenders
• the offence which denies an opponent an obvious goalscoring opportunity
may be an offence that incurs a direct free kick or an indirect free kick

For me the only thing they have going for them is the distance between offence and goal.

Both for me are str8 reds i think both atkers have a good chance at a 1v1. I think its massive inconsistency and disappointing Brooks wasnt atleast sent to the monitor to have another look.

They were not identical whatsoever.

Last man pulls down attacker running through on goal while in the centre circle. Not identical in any way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ball was going towards the sideline in Jota’s case.

ball fell perfectly in jotas path if he picked it up and ran in a str8 line he'd be on the corner of the box probably, though hed want his first touch to bring it inside a little. wasnt anywhere near the sideland or going in its direction.

Nah, not true at all, that is just what Mike Dean said. It was directly in Jota's path for a straight run at goal.

Fair enough. I remembered it differently. Don’t think it was 100% a goal scoring opportunity though so the right call imo.

i think it was jotas not the quickest but quicker than both colwil and the cb who fouled him, and hes a good dribbler at speed too.

========
Evanilson wasn't 100% goal scoring opportunity either. Not sure why you would back him and not Jota, both 40-45 yards out running at goal. If anything Jota would have been to the ball quicker so has more control over the situation. Evanilson is in a race with White both angling into the centre of the pitch, whereas Jota is in front of Colwill, so Colwill would have to get round or through Jota to make a clean tackle.

I would back White to get back in the Evanilson situation, but of course refs shouldn't judge on potential speed of a defender or attacker - but that also applies to Colwill. Without the foul Jota would have had a 10 yard start on Colwill.
