Looking back, can't believe the stick this lad got at Leeds.
All these years later, still scoring quality goals in the Premiership. Almost 2 years older than Bamford too. Fair play to him.

Best ever Kiwi for me is a Kiwi fruit....delicious and nutritious then I'd say New Zealand Lamb, Anchor butter and then as I'm a big music fan Kiri Te Kanawa...Chris Wood is enjoying a purple patch atm and good luck to him and I always supported him at Leeds and was sad to see him go but wish him well but on the richter scale of great New Zealanders I would definitely put Richard Hadley and a dozen more cricket and rugby players above him but he's definitely the best and most famous New Zealand footballer and if we get promoted and he's available I'd welcome him back at Leeds

Joseph Parker prob up there too.. personally I don’t think he’s the greatest boxer who ever lived to say the least… but I can’t think of another boxing world champion from New Zealand

Good point well made White as Snow.
I can't remember exactly when it was(probably when we struggling were in the prem) but I recollect at various points when posters on here ridiculed suggestions that Chris Wood might be a good option for us again.
I get that as a fanbase we go over the top sometimes about going back in for former players but in his case there have been times when that would have been a smart option. He's showing what he is all about and a vastly underrated player. 5 stars.

Totally agree.
We seem obsessed about former players at times but Wood is one of the few who would have made sense 👍

A good pro and still banging the goals in.
I didn’t take the OP as a dig at Bamford. Just a comparison of age.
I vaguely remember the stick he got but at the time we weren’t playing decent football.
Good luck to him.

Always thought he was garbage for us and such a frustrating player because of it. Missed more easy chances than he scored. Never warmed to the guy. Thought we’d got a good deal at £15m. Just my opinion.

Great pro, best sportsman to come out of NZ, and yet, if he took a walk in his local town, no-one would recognize him. He was excellent for us too, and we got a good price for him, which went straight up Radz's nose. Burnley were prem, we weren't, that's how it goes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The best sportsman to come out of New Zealand? Are you sure about that!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Sir Richard Hadlee might have a shout there 👍🏼
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll double down on that. Unlike Sir Richard Hadlee, or Richie McCaw, or Dame Lisa Carrington and the rest, Chris Wood is one of the few New Zealanders to make the transition from provincial New Zealand. In this part of the world, rugby is a religion. The best cricketers can easily cross the Tasman to ply their trade. And in rowing, the facilities and resourcing here are second to none. What I am saying is that Hadlee, ,McCaw, Carrington and others, are outstanding in their fields, but they are supported in their sports.
To make it in the Premier League is a much tougher journey. Ryan Nelson and Winston Reid made it before Wood, but I think Wood's journey has been tougher because he is not a naturally gifted footballer or a brilliant technical player - but he is the most determined individual you will ever come across. He has inched his way to the top. He just keeps improving and I am sure there is more to come from him. His family was originally from the UK, so that was undoubtedly a help, but the sacrifices they made to ensure he followed his dream have been amazing. I am sure every family with a child who is a talented footballer have to make those sacrifices, but they moved to the UK before he ever looked like he would make it as a professional footballer, maintained a normal family life and kept him grounded. When you listen to him now, he might as well be the bloke next door, who you'd go for a pint with, before the game. How many Premier League players can you say that about? And that's why I rate him as the best sportsman to come out of New Zealand.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is bonkers! Do you know what the word ‘best’ means?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said 'best sportsman to come out of New Zealand'. Because he has achieved mastery, without the backing or the natural ability of other sportsmen. He has come further, and worked harder than anyone else, to get where he is today.

Always thought Wood was very good for Leeds and was disappointed when he left. As always I back any player who gives his best in a Leeds shirt.
