Third in the league…however long it lasts…it’s certainly been worth the very long wait.
With the signing of Edu (as Group Sporting Emperor) we have gone up another level off the pitch. His impact won’t be immediate, but it might be felt as early as January…especially if we remain in and around the European spots.
Newcastle sparks the start of a very tough run of games:
Newcastle (H) - 11th
Arsenal (A)*** - 5th
Ipswich (H) - 18th
M. City (A) - 2nd
M. United (A) - 13th
A. Villa - 6th
Brentford (A) - 12th
Spurs - 7th
If we can get a good haul from those? The second half of the season looks a lot more promising…one game at a time!
West Ham:
The Good: Everything, everywhere, all at once!
The Bad: Fabianski...why did you play so well?!
The Ugly: Summerville kicking Yates. Surely a VAR review and red card! The one on MGW was also worthy of a red!
Special Mention(s): Smells like teen spirit. We could have had 5 or 6…again!
The Last Time we played Newcastle (H) L3-2!!
CHO and Elanga levelled it at the break, only to be outdone by a Guimares winner midway through the second half:
Sels
Williams Niakhate Murillo Tavares
Dominguez Yates
Elanga MGW CHO
Awoniyi
Proposed Line-up:
Sels
Aina Milenkovic Murillo Moreno
Yates Dominguez
Elanga MGW CHO
Wood
Subs:
Miguel, Morato, Williams, Moreira, Anderson, JWP, Silva, Sosa, Awoniyi
Injuries: Danilo & Sangare
Not selected: Boly, Omobamidele, Toffolo
League Form:
Newcastle - the last six:
W1-0 @ Home to Newcastle
L2-1 @ Chelsea
L1-0 @ Home to Brighton
D0-0 @ Brentford
D0-0 @ Home to City
L3-1 @ Fulham
They are W1 D2 L2 away this season.
Prediction:
Looking back to the last time we played, we had a much weaker side defensively…our goals conceded…all poor defensively…our options off the bench in that loss? Danilo…Origi and Reyna. No wonder we didn’t get back into it!
With City away to Brighton…and Villa away at Liverpool…we could find ourselves a point behind City and three behind the scousers.
Do we need any more incentive?
Momentum, team spirit and the Geordie Maradana making them regret ever selling us Shelvey!
3-1 to Forest.
Final Words:
Let’s keep dreaming lads!!!

That was a tough watch. We need to improve second half or we’ll end up losing this.

We are second best all over the pitch

We didn’t improve. We lost.
Bad day at the office.
Hope to improve at Arsenal.

Not our day unfortunately

Wasn’t to be. Newcastle were far the better side. I’m feeling disappointed but have to remember the start we’ve made. Hopefully bounce back against…. Arsenal

Probably something of a reality check.
Don’t know why, even at 1-0 we didn’t look good.
Newcastle pretty much controlled the game, we showed some fight at 2-1 down but weren’t good enough to get back into the game.
VAR had very little to say, Anthony Taylor wasn’t unduly controversial, who knows, we might even get away without any fines.
As mentioned above, we have to look at the table, take stock of what we have achieved, and bounce back.
Tough run of fixtures coming up, but that is probably for the better.
All teams have an off day, today unfortunately was ours, the game reminded me of our victory at theirs, it was a case of taking your chances.

Awful performance. For once I am glad we have an international break.
CHO and MGW both had poor games. Our communication was poor throughout with too many misplaced passes.
Other than Murillo getting his first goal and no injuries I take zero positives from this game.
We’ve done incredibly well to be 5th after 11 games, but will have to be a lot better if we hope to stay there.

Having slept on it here are a few thoughts:
Although we conceded three, the back four is still fine for me. Maybe, though we could have gone to a back three and pushed Aina and Moreno higher to help out the midfield.
Yates and Dominguez couldn’t cope with their three in midfield. I think we should recognise that Sangare and Danilo will not figure much in the second half of the season and we should be bringing in some extra muscle in midfield
The attacking quartet all under performed yesterday. Don’t mean that as a criticism given that they have worked wonders to help get us to fifth in the league; something I don’t think any of us predicted. The backup quartet - Anderson, Silva, Awoniyi, and Sosa are all good enough to start games and play 90 minutes if necessary. Nuno should consider rotating who starts games more often after the break.
Finally, we’re fifth in the league - we’re doing brilliantly.

P.s.
Yesterday, they did to us what we did to them in December.
