Looks like a bit of speculation this but
Manchester United view sidelining Marcus Rashford as key to cultural reboot https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/dec/16/manchester-united-marcus-rashford-cultural-reboot-garnacho?CMP=share_btn_url
Looks like SJR and perhaps Amorim too are ready and prepared to let Rashford leave United this January or next summer in order to reboot the squad.
Think Rashford leaving in the next 12 months would be good for both him and United personally.
Hopefully Garnachos absence yesterday was just a kick up the backside for himself

Rashford was never close to the elite players unfortunately. Had a few very good seasons statistically but you could pretty always tell he wasn’t going to reach the standards of the top PL wingers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He got to big too soon. Something I'm worried about with Garnacho.
I still believe there's something left for with Rashford, this is the wrong time to sell him. That was last year when he had the usual drop after the "hot" ETH season. It was obvious his flaws would never work in the team ETH wanted but he sold all his opinions for the great moments from him.
Garnacho is scaring me. Amorim's comment about dropping them is worrisome. It speaks of criminally bad attitude. Rashford is maybe emotionally down but Garnacho has the worst one. I remember Ronaldo too having a similar thing and it took a long period of benches, Ole on the flank football, before him calming down and keeping it simple. Fergie always knew that mentality at that age is as important as ability. First thing everyone says about Amad is "he's humble". It's not for nothing.
Amorim's real test is seeing if he can get them back to his fold. I also wonder if Ruud might have been a better man manager? Anyways I actually hate being right about Rashford.

Some of the abuse he gets is absolutely ridiculous though and goes way way way past the line. He gets blamed when he starts and we don't win and he gets blamed when he comes on for 20 mins when we are already 2/3 goals behind like last week.
Not rating somebody is perfectly fine but the responses he gets on his socials is nothing short of disgusting at times.
Sad end for him this if this is to be it. Guarantee you though that if he does leave and comes back to OT as a guest or opposing player he'd get a huge ovation from most match going fans.

Not everyone responds positively to death threats, constant online abuse and being called into question for wanting to feed the poor.
Some might even fall out of love with the profession that puts you through such disproportionate levels of exposure and scrutiny.
Fancy that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True.
But you could also say.....he would not be the first to put in a stellar season to secure a new bumper deal, and then start to decline with his non-football activity appearing more of a priority.
If he cannot cope with the pressures of football then so be it, that's very difficult to deal with. But may be its the mark of the man that when subject to abuse and accusations about his effort, his response is not to up these elements of his game. To be the hardest trainer the hardest runner.
He shouldn't need his own fans to make excuses for him.

Well said mate. Well said.
I have nothing against the guy as a man. Great man in my eyes.
As a footballer, it is time for us to part ways. I dare say it I reckon he will do well at Arsenal.

Its a product of his burst of form and obvious overpay by management. It was poor management by everyone involved. No one says not to take a massive wage contract, but do not relax after that. ETH for a very long time encouraged all his bad tendencies which suddenly are exacerbated when Amorim who tbh is not demanding anymore than should have been asked for by every single manager before him.
I do not feel bad for him per se. I would like to have been paid his monthly wage for my whole working life. I feel it is a loss for the club because his potential is obvious but we have lost it ourselves. He can mop up his tears with oodles of cash and a super fit girl or bends his head down and improve one or two things (5 yeard passes at a regualr rate?)

We really ought to be careful with this line of thinking. Footballers are not the only sports athletes that are paid a stupendous amount of money. It is very weird this and a British thing, I do not understand why their money is always spoken about as an excuse not to feeling sorry.
There are people with 30/40k salaries who do have a much better mental health compared to some of these footballers.

That one season under ETH aside, Rashford simply hasn’t developed as a player since coming through. His heading, back to goal play, decision making, left foot and workrate out of possession remain poor (the work rate has deteriorated season after season).
As well as not looking right mentally, he also looks like he’s lost a bit of that explosiveness that was so key to his game. It might explain why he’s struggling to take players on as much as he used to, why he’s not getting that extra half a yard to get his shots off etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I do wonder how much of that comes back to his back injury. He struggled for a long time after he got that injury and you could see he couldn't make as many runs on his return. He still had his best season after the injury, but has he had to take painkillers to mask the injury? Has that impacted him mentally? Has he now come off the painkillers and its causing him issues?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s possible. Maybe a more simple explanation is that it’s a combination of the fact he’s played a hell of a lot of games (about 500 United/England games) from about 18 years old, plus he hasn’t added to his game to compensate for any physical decline.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could be that aye.

Elite level sport is brutal.
The mentally weak fall away. Whether that's dealing with pressure or personal circumstances, if you are unable to compartmentalise these things and maintain the highest professional standards and output then you will never become that highest level player/athlete.
What makes an athlete or footballer a true great is ability first but mental strength is also a pre-requisite, and this is even more the case in the modern game when being the most skilful player on the park doesn't guarantee that you will be a success and hit the heights.
If a player doesn't have it then so be it. I don't think one should feel sorry for them but neither should they be abused. A club/coach should be able to recognise this and make the right decision and if that is selling them then do it. If its a spell on the side lines to get the hunger back, do that. Ultimately do what ever is best for the club.
