Hi all,
Feel free to shoot me down on this one! My following of City is at an all time low 😂 set my own business up earlier this year and we've just had our second born land in the past couple of weeks too! Fair to say mind is on other things! Hope those of you still using the site are well though, not been around too much of late!
Anyway back to the point, I see a lot of "sacked in the morning" aimed at Pep,and slating the likes of Walker, Gundogan, Haaland, Foden, Grealish. Fair doos it's pretty basic trolling most of the time, but it strikes me that the real reason we are where we currently are lies in the hands of Begiristain.
He orchestrated a phenomenal transition only a few years back - our old crop of stars Kompany, D Silva, Aguero etc all left, and were replaced by Rodri, Dias, Haaland etc. It paved the way for a very successful period to be immediately replaced by an even more successful period. Top level DOF-ing.
Fast forward a few years and we are in a similar place - Laporte, Mahrez, Gundogan, B Silva, De Bruyne, Walker, some moved on and not adequately replaced, others still playing, overplaying, over relied on, or a combination of the three. And the inactivity of suitable players coming in to freshen the side up as led to where we are now.
This side delivered, then they delivered a treble, and then a fourth title on the bounce. I can't say I'm surprised there has been a drop off this year, but the squad hasn't been freshened up enough to help combat that. And now with Begiristain out the door at the end of the season, it's not his problem either. You have to take the wummery were getting at the moment with a pinch of salt, but they really are pointing the finger in the wrong place for me anyway!

Hard to predict things like Walker dropping off so much and Rodri's injury, but the squad does feel quite weak compared to usual.

Congrats on the second born Grated, hope everyone’s doing well
I think you’re spot on tbh. It’s a mix of being too nostalgic with some players and some poor recruitment the last couple of seasons.
Given how well they’ve done up to this point though, I’m fine with having an off season. Going to be interesting to see how Viana does with the rebuild.

Kovacic, Doku, Servinho Gundagon mkII, Nunes, all not good enough for a top top team, De bruyne is finished too at this level, walkers legs have gone. It's gonna be a tough rebuild but Pep looks lost atm

Selling off the cream of of our younger players is of equal concern.
Make up your own mind as to why we are going for money in the bank rather than talent on the pitch.
