Rooney

An awful manager, sacked yet again.

Amazing that players of the calibre of Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard are terrible managers.

Is it something about the English way of playing/managing? Why are these so-called elite players failing as managers time and time again?

There's a touch of snobbery and jealousy in the above comments about footballers and ex players

It probably stems from the fact that football is still seen as a working class sport etc, with all the posh schools playing rugby. I'm not sure example if in France there is that distinction

Less and less, working class are priced out of the game at PL level. Going from a working class background to playing in the PL probably has odds greater than the lottery and is as much down to luck than skill IMO.

Clubs are also moving to a model of one time tourist fan spending more on the day than a local regular (usually working class) match goer or ST holder. More revenue to be earnt that way.

It’s quite embarrassing when players like Palmer are interviewed, so thick I’m amazed he learned how to breathe, guys an utter moron, as said above contrast that to foreign players speaking English who sound far more eloquent and intelligent. Onana is fluent in something like 5 languages, and he went to school in Africa.

They have great footballing intelligence but not so much off the pitch. Rooney is like that too.

At least Gerrard and Lampard seem more intelligent which makes it more surprising when they do such terrible jobs managerially.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Palmer makes rooney look like Einstein
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't even need for him to speak. He has the look of someone who would try and put out fire with gasoline.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
such a gormless dopey facker. Just aswell he’s a good footballer

I dunno, man. He answers questions so concisely — this is usually a sign of great wisdom.

I'm talking more about participation at grass root level but like I said I could be wrong

Definitely the ordinary working man has been priced out of going to a pl game

I mean more the players than the fans attending games. But well less off fans are gradually being priced out. Anyone becoming a top PL footballer has low odds, but it seems to generally still be the case that posh schools play rugby, the others play footie.

Let's face it, if it wasn't for football a lot of these British players would be in low-skilled jobs.

This isn't the case in Europe where their players are more intelligent. They sound smarter speaking English — their second language — than the Brit players speaking their mother tongue.

Withstanding the obvious drawbacks of somehow generalising a whole continent's education system, most African countries have at least 2-3 concurrent mainstream languages in use and most citizens would therefore be polyglots.

That’s fair, but generally 3 rd world countries aren't known for quality of education, there are ofcourse exceptions to every rule.
