People might make a joke of it and laugh about it and quite frankly as an patriotic Englishman I find it an absolute disgrace and an insult for people to be making fun of this ridiculously excessive punishment on one of the greatest footballers in the world.
Wayne should never have lashed out on the very aggressive and cynical Montenegran player no matter how much of a blatant assault and provocation he was under coupled with the fact his beloved father had just been arrested on some irregular betting rumours, allegations and lies.
UEFA have punished Wayne extremely unfairly and by punishing Wayne excessively Euro 2012 and the world game will be at a loss without Rooneys god given talents.
I believe we should still tak Wayne Rooney because if we happen to make it through the group stages - the one man - and I mean the phenomenon that can single-handedly win us Euro 2012 will be Wayne Rooney.
The lad is simply an extraordinary phenomenon. In 1982 Paolo Rossi only really started playing from the quarter-finals in leading Italy to the world cup title and in 1986 Maradona only came alive in the knock-out stages.
The group games are simply just to get through and with Wayne wanting to prove a point - this could very well be his tournament.
Im fed up of people wanting to assassinate his character. He is one of life's good guys and one of the very nicest and most humble human beings one can ever meet so please stop the abuse because if you personally knew the guy you would really revere him like a saint. He is really down to earth.
Wayne Rooney - Unfair abuse

Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.
(Inter)national football is boring - very boring - and not particularly competitive.
I don't want any MUFC footballers tarnishing themselves with lesser footballers and/or coaches at meaningless tournaments.
Rooney and all of us have (inadvertently) been done a huge favour.
Let's hope they find a reason to ban a few more MUFC players.

remember when he used to get away away with stamping on players. Well this is karma, because there was genuine remorse after 'bad' rooney took control of 'teh roon' and made him to bad things.
When he stamped on that player in the CL and UEFA did nothing, i knew this day would come.

In 2002 world Cup Thierry Henry deliberately and cycnically almost ended Dario Silva of Uruguays career with a despicable and dangerous two footed lunge. Henry was rightly and promptly sent-off and only given a one match ban.
Rooney simply just kicked a cynical Montengran player and for that he gets a three game ban whereas Henry almost ended a players career and gets away with just one game ban. What Wayne did was wrong and uncalled for and I will never condone what he did in the heat of the moment
What about nearly two years ago when Thierry Henry deliberately and cynically cheated Ireland out of the world cup and then went about smirking and lying about it. I cant recall him getting any punishment.
There is simply no consistency when it comes to other players and Wayne Rooney.

why are you even surprised at the reaction? 99.9% of england fans are ballbags. and this just gives the d.cks a ready-made scapegoat when they get panelled by someone like germany or spain next summer.

I think the thing most people are wound up about is the fact that Rooney didn't stop us qualifying...
As it is they can only blame him for our future probable poor peformance... but if he had actually cost us the group the wums could really go to town...
Even as someone who does support England (bit of a rarity I realise, but as an English man they are my team and I will support them win, lose or draw) I am a bit 'meh' about the whole thing... we should be fine getting through the groups without Rooney..
I only hope we have an easy first knockout game to ease Rooney into match fitness in the tournament...

I'm about to hit this with what ifs.
What if the team play well when he is not in it?
England have been awful with Rooney playing up front on more than one occasion and when the play is not going well, he drops deep to "help-out". This can pull the team out of shape and leave us with reduced forward going options.
If Rooney were to join up, because of his lack of positional disapline (an absolute must when players from different clubs come together), I'd stick him in the middle where he is playing for man u now, along side scott parker.
Pace kills, I'd play Walcott, Agbonlahor, Sturridge and Young as a front 4, with Rooney and Parker playing has holding players. Players who can pick a pass feeding 4 players who can get in behind defences, it would be an absolute bloody nightmare for centre backs.

Now if you look at the two players careers in the round..
While yes Henry has blotted his copybook on a couple of occasions. Overall all he has behavior on the field of player has been exemplary.
On the other hand Rooney is just a granny sh@##ing thug!
