Supporter or Customer???

Was listening to Danny Kelly on Talksport on the way home last night and he was discussing the premier league playing matches abroad. One thing though stuck in my mind was the fact he stated we all get emotive about our club and see ourselves as supporters and not customers.

On here we have many people getting very emotive about one subject our owner Mr Bates. So are they looking at this as customers or supporters? Does a customer look at what’s happening on the pitch, how much it costs etc, whilst a support will just want to follow his team as much as possible, whether this means once a year, just via internet or a season ticket holder?

Don’t get me wrong I am neither an anti or pro Bates supporter as I will look at the bigger picture, and I’m not sure everybody in these camps do. As such I don’t think ticket pricing is correct in the main and some of Bates’ attacks on the fans are crass. On the other hand I like the fact we are now run as a business and don’t give players stupid contracts just because they might leave, and we have fans (although some think not) are thought about, unlike previous owners, with the provision of Billy’s Bar/Pavillion.

So should we just be supporters? Does it matter about all this offshore stuff really as it happens in all walks of life (even FTSE companies), the team are not always good (ups and downs)
Or
Should we be customer’s. Not being prepared to turn up if the players are crap or prices are too high?
Or
Should we be both?

My work firewall won't allow me onto not606
It took me ages to find a way round it for this site, and it still creaks a bit every now and then.

I've seen your Facebook rants every Saturday night. I don't watch the programme, I just read your entries and completely understand what's been happening

So fans are not customers? Does a fan become a customer at any stage?

I'm a supporter on the terraces and a customer in the shop.

Many people are supporters by virtue of watching teams on Sky, listening to matches on the radio etc but never go to games, whilst they subscriptions to Sky more of their money goes to Man Utd for example you could be a fan of Leeds but proportionately more of a customer of Manchester United.

Horrible thought

I agree with a lot of what Jonty says and I am now going to have a lay down in a dark room!

We need to hook the young fans early enough to keep them.

Re the point of the thread -

I think I am a supporter.

Sadly I think the club see me as a customer.
