Just how much does history count?

Trotter in peace.
I often see articles from Liverpool fans which refer to the illustrious history of your club. After the ludicrous remarks of Ayre and his barmpot plans to ditch collective bargaining for the Premier League international TV rights, I wondered why he chose to pick on the Wanderers to make his point.
True if his ideas were to be enacted Liverpool would gain more than most in the short term, mostly due to your recent history and success. (I say recent, I mean in the last few decades.) Bolton meanwhile have no less an interesting and long history as far as the English league goes and, I believe if you're going to use your history as a means to justify arguments and to demean other clubs, then at least you should respect the history of others.
With that in mind, have a read of this.

I think a little respect may be due from Ayre, I know he thinks he's only doing his job but maybe the unintended consequences of his ideas that are seemingly apparent to all but him, should have been thought of first. And if you decide to denigrate a league club with which share a lot, then be prepared to put up with the backlash from other league members and the fans and press.
I would also like to say, the defence of Ayre by certain members of your forum showed an arrogance and disrespect that I have only ever seen by the fans of your opponents today. Maybe it's time to re-examine your values because I thought collectivity and co-operative values were the norm amongst the fans of Liverpool.

Well I am, relegation is a big part of this league and we should keep it.

Just thought I would show him how business' look after themselves and not their competition and how each has their own agenda.

And this is why both Dave Whelan and Phil Gartside have publicly stated they are against scrapping relegation from the Premier League?

Which is bad business sense from the two of them.

Have a look at my recent article on that issue, there is a huge reason why nobody would want to scrap relegation or promotion.

TheresOnlyOneReds - the thing is you wrote this unaware that these two chairmen had stated their position, which is fair enough, but it goes to show you that in business it is not always the smart move to be motivated by short term self interest. Just because Liverpool's MD is motivated by this, it doesn't mean this is the only way to conduct yourselves.

Put simply, Whelan and Gartside believe in the current business model, whether their clubs find themselves inside it or outside it.

They also know that scrapping PL promotion & relegation would be catastrophic for the league structure in this country. They are football men.

FredBassett - I am glad we agree on something.
