Why is everyone knocking Jonny?

He's given his all to a club that he loves.

He's just like we are - disillusioned with the current set-up at ER. The
difference being that if it were to effect our careers, would we still be quite so loyal to the club?

He's a top midfielder at this level. I don't believe he'll ever make a massive impact in the premier league, but then again - I would never say Bradley Johnson would have either. It depends a lot on the club and manager.

Nunez is NOT an option for replacing Jonny. We're playing well in 4-4-2. If it's 4-5-1 and Jonny is playing further forward, then maybe, but when he's playing box-to-box, Nunez would be an awful replacement.

Howson is one of the key reasons to us being reasonably successful the last few seasons. Although I feel he can go missing in games occasionally, he's a key component and deserves to be a high earner at the club. Then again, so do Snods, Becchio, McCormack, Lonners and Clayton. Just seems like there's literally no performance based salary, all just money saving ********.

I want Jonny out of the club ....... the guy keeps puking on the pitch, it's disgusting !!!

Pavement pizzas inside the centre circle at least twice now .... fair do's though he plays on afterwards .....

Wldnt get into any of the top 8 clubs in this league minus ours, if he was from Kent or London you wldnt rate him, just over hyping a local lad. Slow, and gives fouls away, dnt think ive ever seen him win a header of crunch someone in a tackle like Clayton can
----

So that´s how we´re judging footballers? Whether they can win a header or make a heavy slide tackle...

His first touch, dribbling, composure on the ball, finishing are great. He rarely gives the ball away.

He scored 10 goals from midfield last season, of course he´d have got into the other teams.

As Jonty says, Howson signed a deal ages ago when he broke through. Since then he's been an ever present, has scored goals, given 100%, captained the club and a member of the U-21 squad. All these things signify an improved contract at any other club.

If he goes you can say that he wasn't offered a deal that he deserves, or he sees no chance of being promoted with this club, or this chairman.

I know this much though - if Howson thought we stood a good chance of promotion, he would accept low pay as he loves the club. If he goes don't call him a mercenary, he just sees no future at the club

Just to clear up any doubt about my previous post ....

While Jonny has off days and can go missing - i still think he does a good job for the side. Unless we've got someone better lined up (Varynen?), then the lad needs backing. As i said yesterday, if he's stalling on his contract, then i suspect he's just weighing up his options..... why not, we'd all do the same thing if we were in a similar position.

Jonny is a high calibre player who will play much better at a higher level club or with higher calibre players

Completely agree.

He's a very technicially gifted player.

Like I say, people would rather have carthorses like hughes.

And people wonder why england never do anything and why we struggle to produce good techicially players

And irrespective of the views of those who rarely see JH play, he is doing an awesome job.

He sure is mate, and Johnson was great end of last season WHEN played in his correct position

Been a top performer for us for a number of years.

Deserves a great contract extension and should not settle for less.

Hero status does not pay the bills. Just take a look at our early 70s, Revie greats and see how they have had to make a living since then.

BJ is ordinary to say the best. He's not fast, not quick, his close control is ordinary and he can't beat a man. I saw him play the full game against Swansea and, in the day, players with his abillities were two a penny. He wouldn't have got in the reserves in the Dons team when players like Jimmy Greenough and Terry Yorath, who couldn't get a game, were twice as good as BJ.
