Cahill to Chelsea for £8M

Rumours today are going around that Chelsea might put in a £8M plus loan player bid for Gary Cahill come January. Given his contract situation, £8M is a no brainer IMO. The loan player will most likely be Josh Mceachran which to be honest, I don't want. Our strongest position in terms of depth is central midfield. Added to the fact that although he will be a very good player in the future, at his current level he is no better then what we have. Would much rather take a defender to help cover Cahill leaving or to fill in at LB.

The question I pose though is who would Gaz's replacement be? Assuming we get about £4M of the £8M to spend (Can't see Coyle wanting to pay to much on a defender either.)

I heard in the news the other day we were looking at an Italy U21 defender who sounded very promising. His name is Marco Capuano, 20, and he plays for Pescara in Serie B.

We also have Rhys Bennett at Falkirk who is doing rather well and Marc Connolly, but I'm not certain I would feel comfortable with them taking such responsibility.

One things for certain a CB contingent of Knight, Wheater and Ricketts is not Prem' class. I know Ricketts played very well at CB for a string of games but, I would be very surprised if that is lasting. If Gaz goes we need a replacement, but who has got me flummoxed.

Seeing as Terry's possibly in line for a lengthy ban and he's more or less a busted flush anyway, then I'd say they need him enough to bid that much.

No brainer for me if they do.

I can see Terry getting a 3 match ban at the very most.

I wonder what Cahill's preference would be, given a choice? If he's settled in the North West, he might want to go to MU, rather than to any London club? That could be bad news for us, because if MU tell him they'll definitely sign him at the end of the season (when he's on a free) then the London clubs could bid 8,10,12 mill and he could refuse to go!

If the club were willing to treble/quadruple his wages he would move to Tranmere and kiss the badge.

I can hardly blame him!

David Luiz is our 2nd best defender after Terry.

Mceachran is good for creativity but Muamba and NRC offer you STrengh and steel, and Mceachran is a bit light.

I can see Lukaku going. He is proberbly better than KD but he dosen't ave the experience

If I have a 'favourite' out of the big clubs in the PL, it's definitely Chelsea.

Will never forget the way their fans willed us to score at Stamford Bridge on the last day of the season in 1998, when we needed a goal to survive. Will never forget Jody Morris not celebrating his goal. They also treated Eidur and Nico well.

So even though they always bend us over and give us twelve inches up the back passage on the park, Chelsea for me.

You might be right there! But he'd still end up a multi-millionaire if he signed for MU, and without having to uproot his family etc.

Confession: I was a Chelsea fan from the age of 7 to 10 (back in the good 'ole days, when football was a sport first, rather than a business ..) They weren't the best team in the league, but they played the best football for sure Then my dad (who wasn't a football fan at all) took me to Burnden Park ...and it was ' bye, bye Charlie Cooke, hello Johnny Byrom! I remember that afternoon very well, largehat. I lived just South of the river in Putney back then so it was a short journey for me. Their fans were amazing that day and a few Chelsea mates insisted on buying my beer for the rest of the night. A sad day made better
by some true footy fans.
